So despite having had two Gold Cards in the past, I was told today by someone in a ticket office that I needed a Photocard for "outside of London". There is no mention of a photocard being needed here http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/ticket_types/46573.aspx, but the NRCoC say "Unless you are specifically advised otherwise at the time of purchase, a Season Ticket must be supported by a photocard which bears a true likeness of the user." whereas the Gold Card T&C's state "You must carry your Annual Gold Card and, where applicable, photocard with you on the journey and when asked by rail staff".
So two questions can come from this:
1) Where is classed as applicable?
2) Why haven't any ticket offices such as Waterloo and London Bridge ever told me about the need for a photocard before?
