First trambus in Belgium makes first trip
The comfort of a tram with the agility of a bus

Tuesday 23 april 2019 — Flemish Minister of mobility Am Walden and the line have the first ' trambus ' of the country. The ' trambus ' takes its name from the unique combination of the comfort of a tram and the agility of a bus. With fourteen copies of this hybrid vehicle extends Vlaamse vervoermaatschappij De Lijn its green fleet. The first trip of the trambus drove along Machelen and Zaventem. That's part of the future route of the ' Ringtrambus ' starting from september between Brussels Airport and Brussels Expo will drive.

It is a double scoop: the first trambus on the longest combined bus lane (16 km). "The trambus offers comfort and speed: a tempting offer to more travelers in the Vlaamse Rand to lure to the public transport network," says Walden.

Quiet, accessible, environmentally friendly

With the comfort and the capacity of a tram and the flexibility of a bus is the trambus a striking newcomer in the street scene. Because of its length of 24 meters approaches the trambus the space feel of a tram: he has place for 137 guests, but also for strollers, luggage or bikes. The 4 wide doors and the low floor, in combination with accessible stops, for a smooth entry and exit of travellers. The dubbelgelede trambus guarantees modern comfort and a pleasant driving experience. The smaller rear triangle and the rotating rear light (fourth) axis ensure that the vehicle can take turns smoothly.

The advanced enclosed cab provides a safe driving experience to the driver so the full attention on the road. Thanks to camera images instead of mirrors, the driver in the send post a good overview of the in-and disembarking passengers.

here in Utrecht as a prelude to the still not running UNI/tramline (light rail for others) they had them since nearly 10 yrs now/near life-expired/to carry masses of students with free passes. Also Hamburg had them/but there they are withdrawn.

Luxembourg also has double-articulated buses that run to the airport and run on battery power only in the city centre.

IMO, the construction of 16 km of bus lanes is of more interest.
