Are there any railway stations you can think of that you, personally, think need a refurb?

Manchester Oxford Road springs to mind.

Liverpool Lime Street concourse. The platforms have been done, the outside has been done, the concourse seems to of been totally left behind.

Watford Junction was rebuilt on a very minimalist basis by BR , it seriously needs a "masterplan" - zero platform canopies , bleak waiting areas (tiled walls and metal seats) , not to mention a substandard subway , a congested station approach and a pedestrian access to the car park which defies description. Not exactly a quiet station either.

Bristol Temple Meads, needs a bigger concourse, plus the big roof needs a good clean

Don't mind Manchester Oxford Road, although it does need some TLC. Would much prefer Manchester Piccadilly platforms 13/14 to be sorted with two new platforms and revamped satellite lounge.

More of a complete rebuild rather than just a refurbish - Falkirk Grahamston (Falkirk High needs sorted too).

It's in a very constrained site and would probably require the rebuilding of two roads to extend platforms to a length that can accommodate the Chieftain - so if money is spent, might as well do it big style and do it properly.

I'd say a Reading style deck over two brand new island platforms with 4 through tracks. This would allow future "fast" services to overtake slow services at this point. It would also help permit future services to Grangemouth.

and you could get very wet at New Pudsey
and for gods sake, find some use for the station buildings at Henley in Arden.

Bristol Temple Meads, The WHSmith has more floor space than the entire concourse

Chester. Update a decade ago was a vast improvement but a long way to go. Waiting room on main concourse is far too small, no 1st class lounge for the extremely popular Euston services and platform 2 looks like its hidden away from the station behind a wall that's serving no purpose.

Agree on Bristol TM - very poor facilities for such a major station. Understand the constraints due to it being listed (?) but it desperately needs a major makeover

Another vote for Bristol Temple Meads - The platforms and subway are dirty and need a good clean, and updating.

The subway at Cardiff Central too, though the platforms are quite nice.

Westbury could do with a good clean too.

Portsmouth Harbour. Better still, don't bother and sink the wretched thing into the harbour instead.

Finsbury Park. There’s been a certain amount of tinkering over the years, but the place is still a dump which carries a rather hostile and at times threatening, not to mention depressing, atmosphere.

Not easy to achieve unfortunately as the place is full of narrow subways and sharp corners, sandwiched between the LU lines below and the BR lines above, however a complete re-fit of all parts of the station bar the BR platforms themselves wouldn’t go amiss in a perfect world.

I don’t know why they persist with that gate line on platform 4 now so few trains are booked to call at that platform.

In my view they have made it worse following the rebuild of the shopping centre as its now much more difficult to navigate for the average passenger. At platform it still a dirty black hole. Actually it needs to be a knock down and start again job, which realistically won't happen.

After that Newport is poor. The new station was looking tired only days after they opened it.

Marsden could do with being fully referbed complete with station buildings and made fully accessible rather than just platform 3 which hardly sees any services call at that platform.

Westbury could do with a good clean too.

When I was there last week, I'm sure the gents toilets were leaking as there was a puddle of water on the cubical floor when I went in.

Quite agree. And the ticket sales/travel centre facilities are woeful. Perhaps the idea is that we should all be good little proles and buy our tickets online. Meanwhile, the toilets at the 'B' end have been 'closed for refurbishment' for some weeks. How long since they opened? Is this a record?

Charing Cross- Only way i can see them doing it is completely knocking it down and doing a Blackfriars style station across the river. Getting a bit more creative than is usually approved on this forum i would say combine it with Waterloo East and make it one giant interchange station.
