Just passed West Drayton on the Up Relief. Leading unit in TPE livery, trailing unit plain white.
I would have thought 802202 which is the unit in plain white would have received TPE vinyls at Eastleigh, unless the two of them went down there for interior fitting?

I suspect the works would have been more mechanical & electrical; LNER's Azumas have been there a lot lately for commissioning and mods, as were some of the later GWR 800s.

Last internal update I saw was that Train the Trainer training was about to commence shortly for Nova 1 and Nova 2. (Training in a classroom and onboard)

No further details were given.

I’m not sure exactly how to interpret real-time trains like a pro but looks promising. Can’t think of what else something capable of 125mph would be running over the Pennines

Bizarre to see that top service stopping at small stations like Mossley and Greenfield which it will never serve

If it’s anything like the GW platform
Validation was, everywhere along line of route gets its stepping distance verified; and the SDO database is tested to make sure the train correctly identifies the station and releases an appropriate number of doors.

A quick question on these: will they lead to improved journey times on their intended routes?

I suspect the answer is yes, but that'll be offset by the various bottlenecks they'll have to crawl through...

They'll be faster from Newcastle to York but doubt it on much of the rest of the route. If anything slower on diesel as the 185s are beasts in that respect.

They'll be able to operate at 125mph (as opposed to 100mph) if they're routed on the ECML fast lines.
but doubt it on much of the rest of the route.
Manchester -> Liverpool/Airport should be enhanced too with electric acceleration; especially prevalent due to the speed restriction over a level crossing on Chat Moss.
The timetable and routings will need some re-jigging for the journey times to be improved though. Southbound between Newcastle and York, the Liverpool-bound TPE is routed on the ECML slows and overtaken by an LNER KGX train after Darlington. Don't think the same is true Northbound because there's only 2 tracks after Northallerton, apart from through Durham.

It's not yet known if departing York southbound will be on diesel or electric (6 miles up until Colton Jn) - but electric would again offer journey time improvements.

The liverpool's are pathed to follow the londons from Newcastle and are booked fast line from Northallerton.
Only time they run slow is if an lner is a few min late, the tpe is moved to slow at Northallerton or Tollerton.

Will they use electric around Leeds? Probably help reduce pollution in the city center and reduce noise/particulates in the undercover station.

Maybe I'm thinking of an anomaly? 9M13 and 1E17.

Until Huddersfield’s wired I doubt it’ll make any difference for all of 5 minutes.

The OHLE will not have been prepared for switching modes on the run.
It might only be done while stopped at York, and again at Manchester Victoria.
GWR only do it in specific places, particularly raising the pantograph at speed.
There are also lineside signs to be installed where it is allowed, as NR has done around Didcot for GWR.
It also remains to be seen where 769s are allowed to switch modes, again while stopped.

I've noted this on my way home, what's the exact issue with the crossing? Is it one that is due to be rectified?
