I was on a Class 319 today on a Crewe - Manchester - Liverpool service today that "sat down" at Whiston with door problems. Eventually we passengers were "turfed out" and left to wait for the next train, fortunately by then only less than 10 minutes behind us. 319.385 then proceeded empty towards Liverpool - obviously it can carry passengers if there is a risk of a door opening - and thanks to the crew for keeping passengers well informed about the problem.

However, on RTT, I have seen numerous examples of trains being cancelled due to door problems. Does anyone know if anything is being done to find a permanent solution to these door problems on 319s ? And were "doors" a problem when they were "Down South" ?

Which door was it ?

Doors are a common problem across the entire network and entire fleet(s) and yep they were a problem down here; in the promised land. :E

Sorry, don't know which door - not in the front coach where I was sat. I assume that one of the interlocks was failing to work correctly.
The only other door problems I have encountered where when Class 142 door failed to close properly, and that problem was usually solved by application of a boot to the door.

I was on a 319 from Liverpool to Manchester a couple of years ago, and noticed there was no hustle alarm for either set of doors in the carriage I was sat. They would just shut at each station without any sound. Assumed it was a glitch, I haven’t seen that happen on any other train!

I was on a 319 today and noticed the doors move away from the frame by some distance if you lean against them while in transit. Interlock worked, but they don't seem very snug to the body when closed.

The doors would "bang" alarmingly if passing another train at speed in a tunnel when they were on Thameslink.

Don't remember may cancellations in service from door issues. Happened a lot with the early introduction of 442s on GatEx. I think there is some art to setting up the interlocks on older units.

The passenger doors on 319s do not lock shut in the same way most other traction types doors do.

Kids used to routinely "pop" the doors by prising them apart a few inches. This was not difficult to do and would bring you up in a heap wherever they decided to do it, usually between Swanley and Bat & Ball. The stations down that stretch are all unstaffed, the trains all DOO, and the little scrotes travel about for nothing whenever they like. A driver got badly assaulted at Bat & Ball a few years back so I guess them popping the doors is the least of anyone's worries!

There were also known problems with cab doors.

Yes when I used to commute on TL (before the 700s arrived) the 319s often sat down due to door problems. Quite problematic in the core.

Doors have always been a problem for the 319s. I've got off a couple of Northern 319s before and some jammed doors refused to open with passengers wishing to alight. Problems like this weren't unheard of on Thameslink either I believe. Seems like an inherently poor design.

As others have said, always a problem when on Thameslink.

Just wait till it snows...

May be. The 321's had this sort of problem from time to time. Had one lose its interlock 3 times working out of Euston one day before we had an extended stop at Watford Jn to 'sort it out'
