Looks like it has been out of use for some time . EV is Sittingbourne signal box that closed a few years ago the area is now under the control of Gillingham ( EK ) so the signal may not be there now and the connection and ground frame removed . The chap did not look inside the tall grey building because that was the loco shed who knows what was inside ?

Vitriol works sidings/loop

A lonely signal sits at red in the bushes.
Last cleared in 2006. Those who used to work 2J99/5J99 (2320 Manchester Victoria - Rochdale and empties back to Newton Heath) cheered when the loop was plain-lined.

The white plastic thing he found in the video with the BR logo, was it a flashing tail light once upon a time?

Either a BR portable tail lamp or a BR portable temporary headlight

There’s one in the abandoned sidings at Chester, well into the thick overgrowth and trees. Near Windmill lane tunnel on the left as you leave Chester for the coast.

Another one on the coast is PR19 (I think) on the up sidings (abandoned) at penmaenmawr.

DM6 on the abandoned up sidings at Dee Marsh (borderlands line). It’s a small type semaphore signal.

SC8306 is a fixed red colour light signal on the bi-directional line into Shrewsbury from Crewe.

Cant recall the signal number now, but the last bi-directional signal at Ordsall lane heading towards Eccles hasn’t been used in a while (if ever?)

The one at conway has been mentioned already, can’t think of any more.

Do you mean the one on the Up Chat Moss in the down direction? I've been put facing road there a couple of times recently.
As far as I know the facing road signals on the Down Chat Moss between Eccles and Ordsall Lane have only been used once, a few months after they were commissioned (was arranged for the last Chat Moss stopper to be put across one night). You'll probably tell me otherwise now! :D

Think it's been plain lined now, but there was the signal to exit the freight terminal on the south side of Ordsall Lane Jn can't have been cleared in many years - it only permitted wrong-direction movements towards Deal St Jn out of the terminal (there were no other possible exits)

I did mean that one. I’m not up there anywhere near as much as you will be to be fair. I’ve not met anyone who’s been that way, we’re under the impression it’s never used. Good to know it is. Have you been bang toad [im getting so fed up of this damn phone!! ROAD] from Eccles into Manchester yet?

I believe that the signals at the end of East Grinstead platforms are red permanently.
Whenever a train wants to get onto the Bluebell I believe the signal stays red but it receives a white ground signal permission to go off the Network Rail signalling.

Only been bang road from Ordsall Lane into Victoria, not into Oxford Rd or vice versa. I do know someone who has been bang road all the way from Oxford Rd to Victoria via the Chord though, I think the ROC were playing games. There were two sets of empty stock from Oxford Rd round to Victoria on a Sunday night; one left Oxford Rd and got put facing road at MC455 Signal then held at Deansgate, while the next ECS was sent normal road on clear signals - the one put facing road at Deansgate then got his signal and they went round to Victoria side by side all the way.

That's right, the 'Creative Logistics' sidings. I can remember the two shunt locos in there but it was probably 20 years since a train had been in or out of the sidings. There was a bad fire at the building maybe 8 years ago too.

Those signals at East Grinstead are fixed red aspects with subsidiary signals from what I can see.

There's a semaphore signal in Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, that's in the middle of some houses. It's been there since I were a lad (1980s).
I'll get a photo later this week.

Thinking about it, given the complexity of the Severn Bridge signal box, there'll be a few signals around Shrewsbury that will never clear- Signals for the Potts lines and Bates and Hunt Oil terminal line are two for starters. And the lines for the demolished Engine sheds, the shelf sidings at Sutton Bridge.

There is a semaphore signal still protecting the Burn Naze branch at Poulton le Fylde. The junction has been removed.
Likewise, at Preston, there is still a signal that protects the old Longridge line, even though the junction has been removed, and, most of the line was lifted a long time ago.

The distant signals for SIMBIDS working approaching Micheldever down road up direction, and also up road down direction approaching Allbrook surely can’t show anything other than yellow even if the head is physically able to show a green.

YE43 at the end of Dover Priory P3 is locked at a red aspect.

It can physically display a single yellow for a shunt release but shunt moves are forbidden in Dover Harbour Tunnel which is why it's locked at red.

Looks like I might be wrong regarding the signal at the exit from Ridham docks between the Swale and Sittingbourne in Kent. Just been on open train times and it is shown as being still there with the same number so the line into the docks is only mothballed ? Once the track is repaired and trains use the line signal 808 can be brought back into use . Although I doubt the ground frame is still there the points being now controlled by Gillingham signal box ?.

Bit late, but here we are. My lad was very impressed when I pushed on the counterweight and cleared it.

I'm not sure where exactly this is but every time I travel between Stafford and Crewe (via the mainline), I always notice this lone signal facing in the direction of trees/fields. I think its on the DS/US side of the WCML.

Its LED and I'm certain there isn't any track next to it. Though only ever get a slight glimpse of it as you're passing it at 110/125mph.

There’s a single track humpback bridge right next to the fast side, that has traffic lights on it and that may be what you’re seeing??
