I know that the Seatfrog app can be used at the moment for last minute first class upgrades, but will this still be running after it becomes LNER?

Unclear. There will be a transition period between VTEC and LNER. Its not clear whether LNER will continue the service after this time.

VTEC twitter are claiming that all services like this, like beam, like free Wi-fi when you book on that site, and the services offered in first class will remain exactly the same.

Of course, they also say the company is in a good place and whoever runs it next will be able to continue the good work they’ve started.

Seatfrog was less than useless whenever I tried to use it. I can’t imagine too many people caring one way or the other if it goes.

Thanks all, just a side question, what would you say primarily is the difference between the east and west coast first class services?

Food offering is better and more consistent on VTWC.

Also the price, VTWC are a little cheaper I find, on average.

Given how few people were in First Class on the King's Cross-Edinburgh train I was on today I'd agree that noone much would care whether it works or not.

They might have had more success overall if they sold the tickets for something closer to a reasonable price in the first place.

I've been using Seatfrog on VTEC and LNER for long distance journeys from/to Kings Cross since 2018. I've had great success and converted numerous very cheap Advances to First for between £10-20. This is less than the fixed price mid-week First upgrades, typically £25, that LNER push out occasionally via email based on some unpublished algorithm.

Seatfrog now seems to support VTWC but I've yet to give it a go.

As of the latest version released (at least to the iOS version) you are now able to bid on upgrades on tickets booked via any retailer and any ticket type. This is done via entering journey details and manually selecting the train departure.

Same on Google Play, although it looks like that was updated on the 25th April

It seems bidding for upgrades is a Virgin group thing - Virgin Atlantic also do it (for Virgin Atlantic bought tickets)

Does this include PRIV?

Successfully added a VTWC trip for later in May that I booked back in March (via VTWC).
Also added two VTWC trips I booked today using a new search feature that's been added. My journeys weren't found so you then get to pick the service your booked on, ticket type and swear an oath to say you have an original ticket or the journey.

I noticed earlier this week you can now make a bid to get an upgrade on Scandinavian Airways flights. Didn't see what system it uses, but assume it's the same idea.

Apologies if this isn't a recent thing, but I haven't flown SAS for a while and most of my other flights this year have been low cost airlines (where everything is up for grabs) or charter.

Yes SAS heve been doing it for quite some time. TAP Portugal (and no doubt others) do the same. I have never found a minimum bid amout that I considered worth paying.
