Does anyone know why I can't seem to see any availability for a direct train Amsterdam to Dusseldorf in August. The train seems to run in June (IC127, I think), but not thereafter - has it been withdrawn?
The international ICEs Amsterdam-Frankfurt are quite subject to diversions via Mönchengladbach (usualy omitting stations between Utrecht C and Köln Hbf with an additional stop in Mönchengladbach) due to the Germans finally coming around to build their part of the Betuwe (the Dutch have their part finished for well over a decade).
You will thus need to change once when travelling between Amsterdam C and Düsseldorf - either at Arnhem C (Dutch IC (30xx series) to Arnhem, Abellio Rail NRW RE19 to Düsseldorf) or at Mönchengladbach (2 fasts and 2-3 stoppers per hour).
Just around now there is an agreement to double the single track between Kaldenkirchen and Duelken. And a train connection between Eindhoven and Düsseldorf. All this over 10 years from now. Cost at 135 million euro. Also if Utrecht - Arnhem is blocked the ICE can run over the Betuwe line.
The train would have been faster over the HSL via Schiphol and Breda. But no knowledge of the line by the driver and not sure whether the ICE is able to run there.
