Hi guys, for those who applied for this post, did you have to take one or two online assessments immediately after clicking submit for your application? I was under the impression it was two from searching the forums, with an invite sent out to the second soon after passing the first. Completed one late last night but not heard anything since so I’m assuming it’s not good news. Just wondering if anyone was in the same boat (or train!)

I had an invite to complete the scenario test right away and then an invite to complete the alphanumerical test shortly after that

Yeah I also had the alphanumerical test link sent shortly after completing my scenario assessment.

Ah that’s what I feared. Took the situation test about 10 last night.

Till next time I guess! Shame as I’d spent a good chunk of the weekend completing the application form, however this was my first time applying so at least I’ll have something for the future.

That’s a shame mate. At least the application is completed now. That makes it much easier to apply for jobs as they come up.

That’s a good thing with the portal they use, once you’ve filled out the form you only have to do half a job next time! (I guess a lot of companies do the same now).

I also wouldn’t necessarily say it means you haven’t been successful if they assessments aren’t emailed out seamlessly, sometimes they’re not than instantaneous.

Thanks for the replies. And yeah Stigy still holding out a bit of hope.

As Plymouthians, what are the options when it comes to applying for trainee positions? From what I can see it looks as if GWR and Cross Country are the TOCs who operate from this area? That's going on the basis that I could reasonably travel to work as far east as Exeter and west to half of Cornwall.

XC aren't taking on trainees in Plymouth and are unlikely to for a long time. So you're limited to GWR.

They did somewhat rely on GWR drivers going over and I don't see that happening in the future either

Was advertised as open until 22nd so there must have been a huge number of applicants

Yeah I’m not surprised at all, I mentioned it at the start of the thread that it seemed to be open for quite a long time.

I took 2 assessments. Situational and Alpha numerical. That was 2 weeks ago and I have not heard anything since

Morning, is it usual to do the 2 online assessments then get radio silence for a while? I completed them both 2 weeks ago and heard nothing since. Has anyone else gone any further?

Morning. Yes I wouldn’t be too worried at the moment. I was offered an assessment centre 15 days after taking the second test but this was fairly quick so you may hear something in the next couple of weeks. As I’m sure you’re aware from reading others threads the process is known as being a long one!!

Good luck

Its about four weeks since I completed the tests and still not heard anything but I am not too worried yet, as others have said it can take a long time to get a reply.

Hello, so I'm currently in the pool for Penzance. What do you think is the best course of action, stay and wait it out here OR do I look into moving pools to Plymouth if that's possible? I don't want to sit in this pools for years on end and possibly pass up an opportunity, where I can relocate maybe and get on with my career.

I guess it comes down to whether you want an earlier start date or your choice of location. I know of one who was prepared to relocate, spoke to recruitment and was offered a place very quickly.

I'm definitly prepared to move for an earlier start. Its really difficult trying to gauge the risk of moving pools and losing my position in the queue at penzance and starting again in Plymouth BUT hopefully getting a position much sooner than I would at penzance vs stay where I am but face sitting in the pool for a further couple of years. It was a lot of hard work getting to this point and Iv already been waiting a year so just want to make the most of it and get out there.

Have they said that moving pools is an option? Is it the same manager(s) responsible for both ligations? If not, surely the manager(s) responsible for Plymouth would have the final say?

Yes your right. I emailed them a few weeks ago asking if it was possible and was told yes but at the managers discretion.
