TfW have just sent a tweet promoting their cheapest ever fares, just about correct, I suppose as they have only been operating the Welsh franchise for less than 12 months!

They are quoting significant savings on advance single tickets for a selection of routes over 50 miles.

There are no advance tickets available for journeys from the likes of Llandudno to Liverpool, either by Merseyrail connection at Chester, or more surprisingly on the TfW operated train via the Halton Curve and Runcorn.

You can, however, buy an advance ticket from Ty Croes, a hamlet on Anglesey to Clarbeston Road, an even smaller hamlet in deepest Pembrokeshire for just £32.
Amazing value, but I don’t expect the TfW website to crash when processing the volume of bookings for this journey!

Pretty poor really...

What did they say about them? All I can see on twitter from around then is something about Paypal. There's something on their web site promoting a few advance fares, but that could be there all the time for all I know.

£55 return Man Pic-Cardiff, can do Man-Glasgow/Edinburgh for £32 , admittedly age dependent, on the current TPE offer.

This isn't really anything new when it comes to online sales.

Many retailers advertise sales with 'up to 70% off,' for example. In reality, only a tiny amount of products are 70% off and they are of limited appeal. The good stuff is barely discounted.

At the end of the day, you have a choice whether you want to buy it or not. You can easily decide the journey you want isn't attractive at the fare offered. You can then make alternative arrangements. If you really need to travel, surely you were going to buy a ticket anyway so a small discount is still better than nothing?
