Still in dark but why don’t Norwegian fly direct to Germany anymore from Gatwick?

Why are the only flights via Norway or Denmark?

Thanks for the swift reply!

I think the BA flight from Heathrow is due to use T2 at Frankfurt, with JAL doing the same, on my trip. Certainly sounds like my visit to Frankfurt airport will be nice and easy, and given I won't have much with me it should be a cake-walk to trek through the terminal. It certainly can't be worse in terms of size than Sydney for that, although I did march through there quite happily. As long as I have time for some filling food and a German beer before my JAL 787 onwards it'll be sweet.

I do intend to try some Japanese foodstuffs when I'm there, although what remains to be discovered. However it is most likely I'll end sticking to Western foods, never been a fan of stuff like Chinese and Thai food for example after all. That being said rice seems to be quite popular in Japan, from what I can vaguely tell, so I'll be satisfied with a great big serving of that!

Aye that's fair. Interesting BA are often coming in cheaper than easyJet! I keep seeing ads lately for easyJet flights for £39.99 (or thereabouts) but they all seem to be when two people fly. That still bugs me, it's a bit like hotels charging you per person instead of per room. Or like Jet2's awesome sounding offer of £60 off your next Jet2Holiday deal, which only applies to a booking for 2 or more people. If they were willing to make it fairer on solo travellers and make the offer say £30 off for solo travellers that's still enough to tempt me to book a deal with them again. I get that it helps persuade families to book another trip, but those of us who fly solo are left out. Heck I'd be happy with a free coffee instead!
It is all irrelevant if you aren't flying from the South East. BA are never going to be cheaper if you are travelling from say Liverpool, Manchester or Leeds by the time you pay to get somewhere BA fly from.

Depends on how you get from the North to Heathrow or Gatwick, or indeed London City. I generally get to Heathrow with National Express, considerably cheaper and much more convenient than by rail. I can do the same for Gatwick, although the ching even by National Express to Gatwick is considerably more and the journey time is less competitive with rail for Hereford to Gatwick. Still only the one change, granted, at Victoria Coach Station which is a darn sight easier than arriving at Paddington or Euston and dealing with the Tube to Victoria and onwards. Which is admittedly more fun than changing at Reading for a trek across the North Downs to Gatwick.

Point being it depends totally on the journey being made and what the price difference is for me and no doubt others. If it came to BA versus easyJet for me, I'd choose BA. One primary reason being, depending on flight times, I can use a trip to Heathrow to do some planespotting at the same time. Besides, if I want to fly with easyJet it's realistically Liverpool, Manchester, Luton or Gatwick for me given there's not many flights with easyJet from Birmingham. So I might as well choose BA from Heathrow! The rail fares to the other airports can be rather massive, making it much cheaper to use Heathrow!

That's not true. BA are sometimes the cheapest option from Manchester.

I just priced up a trip from Manchester to Montreal for later in the year, and BA were the cheapest.

There probably will be an example of it somewhere, but BA are unlikely to be cheapest on the short haul routes, where Easyjet are relevant.

I don’t know how easy (or not) Bristol airport is from Herefordshire, but easyjet have loads of flights from there.

Anyone here have any experience of Royal Brunei in Economy on long haul flights?

I am heading to Australia in October and looking at various options and by far they are the cheapest and don't charge for seat reservations.

I am aware of the dry in flight refreshments but that does not bother me.

I flew with them from LHR to Dubai in August 2015, as they were a bit cheaper than Emirates, Virgin and BA for the same journey.

Their Dreamliners are nice aircraft to travel on and although some slate them for their lack of legroom, the legroom in economy was fine for me (I'm 5ft 11). Prior to takeoff a short prayer is broadcast over the PA system.

The cabin crew are fairly reserved. I ordered the nut-free meal because I am allergic to all nuts; the meal itself was comparable to a school dinner! Films and TV shows on the IFE are heavily censored. I tried watching The Fresh Prince of Bel Air but discovered most of the jokes had been bleeped out, presumably to comply with local sensibilites.

I'd pay more for Sleasy in that case, at least you know it'll turn up.

Ha quite so, although bizarrely enough Flybe seem to have an Estonian airline called Nordica operating many flights out of Glasgow at the moment.

I flew them Berlin to Gatwick back in 2016 and I think that was there only direct flight from Germany to the UK. They have discontinued a lot of short flights out of Gatwick to destinations outside of Scandinavia and the Mediterranean, presumably not as profitable for them as using their slots for their routes to the US etc.

You probably don't want to hear too much "insh'Allah" either - I want to get there due to a properly maintained aircraft flown by a competent crew, not merely if God wills it :D

+1. I'm not religious, so travel prayers until I heard it on Etihad confused me. Didn't know a prayer specially for travel existed anywhere before!

Yeah because that’s when I flew with them last, pity as they offered variety to EasyJet and Ryanair.

The only downside to flying EasyJet to Berlin specifically from Luton are the times are awful - be nice if there was a mid morning flight to Berlin and a early evening return flight back to Luton in addition to existing daily return flights.

Did think of flying into Dortmund then DB to Berlin, anyone used Dortmund before?

Also looking at flying to North Rhine-Westphalia so any tips on best airports to use?

Yes, I've gone to Berlin via Dortmund (for the exact same reason!) - very easy overall, there's a direct shuttle to the station from the airport, or you can use a local bus to a Metro stop, then get the Metro in from there (which works out cheaper, and is included if you have a CityTicket add on for your DB ticket, the direct bus to the station isn't).

I have, thought of Luton as never used it before - was going use it in March but plans got cancelled.

Have used Gatwick before but not for some time, are all the low cost airlines now using one terminal?

That’s very handy to know, does the local bus have next stop announcements at all?

Just trying to work out the easiest method, I know I got a local bus from Potsdam in 2016 to the German Air Force Museum which had the announcements but not sure if it’s something across the whole country?

Any idea what the cost difference is between bus/metro and shuttle?

No not really, easyJet, TUI and Virgin use the North Terminal, and Ryanair, BA, Thomas Cook and Norwegian us the South Terminal

I knew they shuffled the airlines a few years ago with airlines swapping terminals, which terminal is next to the railway station please?

It's South that's next to the station, North is via a 5min transit ride.

I would only consider train to London Heathrow if I had a good deal on a long haul flight, not short haul too much hassle.

You can go easyjet from LPL to BER, take London Northwestern New Street to South Parkway. Bus conx to terminal from outside station, easy.

Any interesting places within Europe that can be recommended except Paris, Berlin, Dublin, Belfast, Helsinki, Brussels, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Bourges, Tallinn, Chartres, Tours, Rheims please?

Am looking at Warsaw, Amsterdam but wondered if there was anywhere else by flight obviously that recommended - not interested in Switzerland as it's sooooo expensive!
