The recently commissioned Lea Bridge junction seems to have run into trouble with signalling issues between Lea Bridge and Stratford for over a week now. Up trains to Stratford have to stop at a non-clearing red signal protecting the junction, and after obtaining permission from the signaller, have to crawl into Lea Bridge at 10mph with an average delay of 3 to 4 minutes. I understand the signalling issues apply to the platforms 11 and 12 at Stratford too. A driver yesterday claimed he had asked signallers how long the problem was going to last ..but they do not have an answer.

I had been wondering what they would do about platform numbering, and I think I have my answer. I’ve just passed through Northumberland Park. I noticed that the down platform has been renumbered 4. Didn’t notice the other ones, but I assume this implies the existing up platform is now 3, the new 3rd track will have platform 2, with passive provision for a platform 1 to be added later, which seems logical.

In the time it took me to type that I’ve now passed through Tottenham Hale and seen the up platform renumbered 3, which implies the same scheme although again I can’t be sure.

Yes Tottenham Hale down and up platforms are now 4 and 3 respectively. The new platform will be number 2. And if crossrail2 is built or the three tracks are widened to four then a new platform could be built and numbered 1

With a week to go, and in the absence of any recent publicity or press releases, do we think Meridian Water will open as planned 20 May?

Yes. The station has been substantially complete for a long time. I saw some photos at the weekend - they are finishing off footpath access. I assume things like ticket machines and Oyster validators are in place or due imminently (couldn't see that on the photos). I'm probably going to toddle up there later this week to snap Angel Road before it closes for good so will be able to check.

The Field Day Festival on 7-8 June is a few minutes walk from the station. I had heard that a dedicated rail shuttle was going to be put on that weekend, because they are expecting a lot of people...

There were posters up at Liverpool Street today advertising that Angel Road will close on the 19th and Meridian Water open on the 20th. Sorry, was rushing for my train home so didn’t get a picture.

I’ll bet Angel Road will record its highest number of passengers this week.

17 May 2019 is de facto the last day of Angel Road in terms of trains calling at the station.

Dont think it is dedicated shuttle, but looking on NRE looks like stops are being added on the Stortford Stratfords every 30 mins all day on the Friday and Saturday.

Would be nice to see the new siding in use by then, but that would be optimistic as I dont think a train has run on it yet, also not sure the new platform 2 at Tott Hale will be open by then

Looks like the closure of Angel Road and opening of Meridian Water has been postponed by a week (at least).

Greater Anglia website says:
"STATION CLOSING

This station is scheduled to close permanently on 27 May 2019 or within four weeks after that.

A brand new station is scheduled to open on 28 May 2019 at Meridian Water which is situated approximately 500 yards away to the south, on the opposite side of the North Circular Road."

(see https://www.greateranglia.co.uk/travel-information/station-information/agr )

RTT showing calls at Angel Road, not Meridian Water, all next week:
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/search/advanced/AGR/2019/05/22/0200-0159?stp=WVS&show=all&order=wtt

So at this point I think the last train from Angel Road will now be Friday 24th May, not Friday 17th May. Can anyone confirm what's happening?

This new station is currently scheduled to open in May 2019. The opening date has now been revised and is currently expected to be Tuesday 28th May 2019.

More details will be added to this page when it becomes available.

Yep it seems like it has been delayed until 28 May 2019.

The same poster I mentioned in post #98 is still on display at Liverpool Street this morning, however.

A recent exchange with GA suggested that Meridian Water would be open weighing days/weeks but not months! Seems less certain than a week ago! Also signage is up at Angel Road advising of the delay! Station PIS showing a message advising of the delay also. In other news, platform 2 is now visible at Tottenham Hale as is the new exit on Platform 4 to the new Ticket area and footbridge albeit cordoned off

A good thing I didn't book advance tickets to save a bit of money, I'm hoping to get to Meridian Water on the opening day.

It would be a pretty elaborate prank to play. Announce after the last train one day "oh, by the way, it'll open tomorrow" :)

National Rail Enquiries is currently giving 31 May as last opening day for Angel Road and 3 June as first opening day for Meridian Water, but both dates are still subject to possible revision.

Realtime trains suggests the first train from Meridian Water will be the 0557 on 3 June. And that the last train from Angel Road will be at 1952 on 31 May.

The last train should depart Angel Road and then stop at Meridian Water. One train last and first!

ORR have tweeted that they have signed off Meridian Water station and that it will open next week. Therefore I assume Angel Road's last day is 31 May 2019 and Meridian Water's first day is Monday 3rd June 2019.

I do not have the best tools around, but from the north end of Meridian Water to the south end of Angel Road, it is about 80 meters according to Google Earth.

Even if the regulations were relaxed for the experiment, You will want at least a 5-car Class 317, just to be sure.

Each car is 19.83 m long, and the distance from the back of the driving car to the leading set of passenger doors is 13.48 m: that is, the car length minus the driver's section (2.21 m), the leading passenger compartment (3.5 m) and the first half of the doors (0.64 m).

That comes up to 86.45 meters in total.

If you want to be absolutely sure, then go for a eight-car Class 317, which will not require tedious coupling.
