Help with split ticketing.

Is anyone able to suggest any split points for a London to Sunderland journey? I have tried Train split but I am not getting many options...
Travel is 5th July 2019 one way, I'll get into Paddington from Cornwall about 16:00 (that bits non negotiable I'm afraid, as I am accompanying someone back to Paddington)
I have an annual gold card, which may or may not be of use at that time. Ideally want to be in Sunderland for 10:30- 11:00pm

Trainsplit offers £46.25 on the direct 20:00 service, arriving 23:23

I doubt you'll get cheaper than that.

Your Gold Card isn't of much use, unless you are asking for flexible fares.

I don't think you'll get anything cheaper than the 1648 or 1927 direct Grand Central services. There are advance fares left for £55.50 and £51.50 respectively.

There's also a £48.50 ticket on the 2000 Kings Cross-Sunderland, but that doesn't get you into Sunderland until 2323.

You could manually look up the fares between London and places like Grantham, Newark, Retford etc and then from each of those to other stations en route and so on and so forth, but by the time you've done that, any savings would be wiped out by the time spent making the calculations!

Trainsplit cannot always offer the absolute cheapest combination of fares but to find something better would either require specialist knowledge or a lot of time (or both!)
