We can't even fall apart consistently. Always have to claw it back a bit then throw it away again :D

Thought Derby were pretty poor tbh, and we basically gave them the game on a plate.

Feeling positive now though, it has still been a great season and we'll be looking to build on that for next season.

I also don't have to go to Wembley now to be disappointed there :)

Bet that's made your season.
I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a little bit of schadenfreude... but I'm not sure we'll be able to continue our recent good record against you. I have missed the local derbies the last two years though.

When's the petition calling for play-offs to be scrapped starting up?

Recent good record? You don't have any recent good records :D

I've not missed them, it barely registers. It's got all the allure of playing any other Pennine mill town team with the added inconvenience of 12 O'clock kick offs, turgid football and a load of pond life who get a bit too giddy. Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall, Barnsley and one of Villa/Derby are much more interesting fixtures.

We've won the last three derbies, despite a much lower playing budget (at the time). I agree that two downsides of the derby are silly kick-off times (though you lot have those almost every week anyway thanks to Sky) and the idiots on both sides. Especially as I live between the two places.

But I know you don't care about us at all, that's why you never mention us... oh, wait.

Who would people prefer to be promoted?

I rip on Villa quite a bit but they’re an otherwise inoffensive outfit with a fine history. I’d quite like to see them in the PL.

The fact that you know the results of our last three fixtures and player budgets at the time off the top of your head, while I don't, says it all.

Of the two, I'd back Villa to do it... but with the play-offs you never know.

I'd hoped Bristol City would make the play-offs simply because they haven't been in the top flight for so long, but Leeds would probably have beaten them in the semi-final anyway.

Anywhere B link goes
Regular season results.
Derby 0-3 Villa
Villa 4-0 Derby
Would be so like Villa to lose the play off.
I just hope those Derby teams turn up and not the one from the second half last night
Then again I hope those Villa teams turn up too

FFP is designed to keep the big boys at the top and the small boys down in their place. And if you break FFP what happens...you get a fine! An absolute joke.

It will be interesting to see the final FFP outcome of the investigation into Manchester City, as the implied threat of not being to participate in the next Champions League fixtures would have financial implications far in excess of a fine.

FFP is the ultimate old boys club - spend what you like if you're an established business with a huge fanbase and associated income, because you'll meet the rules. Just don't have any outside investments otherwise it's "unfair".

The response to the accusations this morning from Manchester City was very robust and I think UEFA have now bitten off more than they can chew. There's a huge can of worms wriggling around at the centre of European Football and I believe it's rotten to the core. If Man City choose to take this to the wire there is a chance of huge and lasting damage to UEFA.

And I'd be happy to be out of Europe - midweek fixtures impacting the domestic program. I'd take a home treble any day over the Chumps league.

I have a ticket for the CL final in Madrid , following a ballot held by LFC for all qualifying Season Ticket holders who entered.
I am not going though as the whole cost of going is way to expensive for 1 game of football ( Tickets £60 - £500 + travel costs).
I sold it to a mate (at cost price) who had his accomodation and coach travel booked already.

That was jolly decent of you, I hope you don't come to regret the decision if Liverpool win.

Being there for a triumph like seeing your team winning the Champions League could be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I'd imagine that the reason they currently play in the Scottish league (travel distances to away games) will still apply:- so I imagine their preference will be to enter the Lowland League. Though with Cove coming from the Highland League that does complicate things. Is there much history in Scotland of teams making "sideways" moves between the regional leagues?

If they were to enter the English pyramid, I imagine they'd have to enter at a fairly low level of the non-league system.

Selkirk went bust last August so there is a vacancy in the Lowland League.

The winners of the Lowland and Highland Leagues play off for the right to play the bottom club in Scottish League Two - which gets relegated if it loses. There would be complications if a team from the north replaced one from the south or vice versa as there is a big geographical divide between the Lowland and Highland Leagues making it awkward to move clubs between the two.

What complicates things further is that there is relegation from the Lowland league to its two feeders, the East of Scotland league and the South of Scotland League. The Highland League, on the other hand, is ring fenced with no feeders and no relegation. That's how Fort William have survived for so long.

There is always that chance, but I already knew someone who wanted it more than me !

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
I heard Mark Hughes on the wireless radio the other day mentioning length of time that managers have nowadays in football, with the chairperson seeming to demand unrealistic expectations in very short timescales. I think this may have been a response to Chris Hughton leaving Brighton.

I thought to myself that Hughes has not really had much of a successful managerial career himself, as although things improve when he first takes over a side, the second season his managerial skills soon get found out.

I can't think of anything in particular to back this up, but I feel that a lot of Mark Hughes sackings have been in response to temporary blips in form.

That will be him done won’t it? Horrendous brand of football, and not a very nice person.

He was given a job to do at boro which was get promoted whike cutting the wage bill. That part was managed but his tactics werent popular with the fans. I think they were prepared to put up with the negative approach while promotion was on. Once it had gone they weren't.

My view is you know what you are getting with pullis!

This coming Saturday will see the second-leg of the Scottish League Two play-off final between Berwick Rangers and Cove Rangers, with Cove Rangers holding a 4-0 win in the first leg. As Berwick Rangers are a club from outside Scotland, what will happen if they lose this final on aggregate?

Berwick Rangers lost 0-3 at home in second-leg play off, 0-7 on aggregate.

I think Berwick will join the Lowland League and the Highland League will work around losing a member. Tweedmouth Rangers, also from Berwick, currently play in the East of Scotland League - the league below the Lowland League.

The last club to be relegated from Scottish League Two a couple of years ago were East Stirlingshire who were placed in the Lowland League. They finished in sixth place this season.....P28 ... W11 D6 L11.

It looks like the treble is heading to East Manchester, 4-0 now.

Though with all the comebacks we've seen recently, you never know! ;)

Next season will be interesting, as my two non-League loves meet for the first time in my living memory, as relegated Maidstone United will meet Slough Town in the National League South. I suppose I have to wish for a win each!

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has announced he'll be leaving the club to become player-manager at his first club, Anderlecht.

Player-managers are a rare breed these days!

Just a gentle reminder that this is the Football thread.

If anyone wishes to discuss something else, please create a new thread. (The forum has plenty of spare capacity for new threads and there is no need to cram lots of topics into this one ;))

If anyone notices something of concern, please use the report button to alert us of it (but please do not re-publish/quote/refer to or react to any such content), thanks :)

Phew. Bury's biggest FA Cup final score wasn't beaten, just equalled.
