Did all of the Tube stations in one day last November (and I've infilled the gaps line-wise at other points such as completing the W&C and Watford West curve). In terms of the other bits of the Tube map:

DLR: Whole network done
LO: Everything except the Crystal Palace 'spur'.
TfL Rail: Whole network
Trams: Whole network done
Cable car: Done

Snap Did the Hertford East section last Sunday ( the station is worth looking at) however the only bits needed to do will be weekday peak as they are the curves at Dartford and barnhurst/ crayford/ hither green, and possibly the Kennigton loop

AND due to my sons insistence every line was done both ways, including the Emirates!!!

The curves between Crayford and Slade Green and Barnehurst and Slade Green can be done at any time these days. Even Sundays for the Crayford one.

All tube (excluding Piccadilly stopping at Turnham Green and Watford North Curve), all trams and the cable car. In terms of LO, I've done all of the NLL, ELL from Whitechapel to Clapham Junction (nothing from Surrey Quays other ways) and the Romford to Upminster service (as National Express Greater Anglia). Not the Watford DC or Goblin though, or any of the lines out of LST except to Chingford. In terms of TfL Rail, only London Liverpool Street to Harold Wood, though have done on the line on LE on a train from Southend Victoria and the line on the other side on a HST out of Paddington.

As the old thread was closed, I've started up a new one! Since 2015 I've actually removed a few of the missing bits (and for genuine travel purposes too as I needed to go to the likes of Chesham, Cockfosters and Turkey Street)

Bakerloo - whole line
Central - all except Loughton to Epping (never did Ongar either)
Circle - whole line
District - whole line
Ham & City - whole line
Jubilee - whole line
Met - whole line (not the Watford North Curve)
Northern - whole line (not the Kennington loop)
Piccadilly - whole line (including Aldwych) except T5
Victoria - whole line
W & City - whole line
DLR - whole line

Overground - whole of the network except Harrow and Wealdstone to Watford Junction, Norwood Junction to West Croydon, Turkey Street to Cheshunt, Hackney Central to Chingford.
TfL Rail - whole of the network except Harold Wood to Shenfield (I did Paddington to T4 when it was Heathrow Connect)

Having flown into the Heathrow T5 tonight and used the Piccadilly line home from there, I can now tick off one of my last remaining sections...

All of it. I did Epping to Ongar in the final week before it closed, but never got to do Holborn to Aldwych. However, I did it on foot through the tunnel with no track in it in 1999, so I've sort of done it. :)

I've covered it all except the Ongar branch and Kennington loop (still fancy giving that a go one day) .

Probably the rarest thing I did was the Bakerloo all the way to Watford Jct. I was a very young child at the time.
Isn’t staying on a train turning back illegal? I’ve no idea of the rules in London, but in Hong Kong and China turning back with passenger on board is a minor incident and station employees could be held liable for that.

I was on a southbound Kennington-end train last week, and at the last second before the door closing at Kennington I decided to alight...

It’s not ‘illegal’, although overcarrying into depots or sidings is something you don’t want to do.

The Kennington loop is a special case. Officially it is a non-passenger section of line, and you should alight.

However, the loop is signalled to passenger standards and trains are not routinely detrained; if you do stay on board you will be returned to Kennington. If the train is not going around the loop it should be detrained car by car.

The official advice remains to follow staff instructions; if you are asked to get off, do, but (as far as Kennington is concerned) you’re not going to get in trouble if you remain on board if the train isn’t detrained.

LUL stopped routinely detraining at Kennington some years ago, to increase the throughput at the station and reduce delays. I think it is accepted that the odd passenger will be carried around the loop from time to time.

None of which negates my previous post; Kennington does still see occasional detrainments, often for staff training. There have been numerous incidents of enthusiasts getting abusive with staff when asked to get off the train.

I agree, if you are instructed to leave the train then you should do.

Okay, I should try the loop next time if I have...

Your best bet is to go to the very rear of the train, that way no one will bat an eyelid. Going round the loop really isn’t a problem - the decision has been made not to button up there, so coming with that is an expectation that people may inadvertently remain on the train. Be aware though that you could be on unusually empty train in the potential company of undesirables.

Nowadays most trains tend to go round fairly quick, typically only stopping once and normally for no longer than 1-2 minutes; slightly more during the peaks and sometimes a bit more still near the start or end of traffic.

Note also some drivers do some outwardly bizarre things to try to discourage people from pulling handles. Some play random CIS messages constantly (the only way to stop a daft automated message encouraging people to pull handles coming up on the in-car screens), whilst some choose to sing through the PA all the way round.

Bakerloo - whole line
Central - Ealing Broadway to Leyton
Circle - whole line
District - whole line
Ham & City - whole line
Jubilee - whole line
Met - Hillingdon to Aldgate
Northern - all south of Camden Town
Piccadilly - Heathrow (all stations) to Turnpike Lane
Victoria - whole line
W & City - whole line

When I was in London in late May (I now live in the US) I knocked off all of the Central, Northern and Piccadilly lines that I hadn’t covered, plus the Met to Uxbridge.

So now it’s “whole line” for everything (Underground) except the Met (Harrow on the Hill to Watford, Chesham and Amersham). Engineering works permitting I’ll try to complete that when I’m back for Christmas.

If you get lucky with the engineering, you might be able to easily do the Watford North Curve too.

Very helpful tips.

PS. Will the loop be generally disused after the opening of Battersea Branch, or several trains still routinely turn back there?

In 2017 I visited every Underground, Overground, DLR and TfL Rail station, arriving and departing by train at least once. I've since visited all the additional such stations in the same manner. I haven't visited every tram stop - I 'm missing Dundonald Road, Merton Park, Phipps Bridge, Belgrave Walk, Mitcham, Beddington Lane, Lloyd Park to King Henry's Drive, Blackhorse Lane, Woodside, and Avenue Road.

In terms of track covered, then I believe I'd done all the normal bits of track on TfL services, including the trams, except Hayes & Harlington to Heathrow Central. I've done the Watford North Curve, Camden Road-South Hampstead, Seven Sisters-Northumberland Park depot, Wandsworth Road to Battersea Park*, St Mary's Curve (East London Line to District Line) and Victoria Line to/from Piccadilly line. I've yet to manage the Kennington Loop or DLR Bank headshunt**.

*The first time I travelled on the Overground South London Line the train I was on was diverted there due to some sort of problem on the way to Clapham Junction (a points failure I think)
**I nearly did accidentally a couple of years back when I was engrossed in a book and didn't notice we'd arrived. Unfortunately I didn't have the time to spare to stay on once I realised.
