That is my biggest fear, and in connection with that I fear that the long-running policy of "run everything into/out of Euston as booked even if it's late", which has worked well for years, will have to be dropped in favour of running things fast to catch up and cancelling south of Northampton, which will seriously harm the interests of the core market in favour of chasing cheap fares to Brum, Liverpool and Crewe.

In other words, it's all going a bit Chiltern, who have been neglecting Aylesbury and south-of-Bicester commuters for years in their pursuit of becoming an IC operation to Brum and stealing tourist revenue from GWR.

I'm rather concerned that it will end up that the West Midlands local services they will end up forming onto (Rugeley & International Shuttle) which will get cancelled to catch up time... Will just have to see what it becomes!
Which services were the 319s going to be on?

There is a 5U27 0930 Northampton to Crewe ECS running in its path so presumably no guard is available and it is running DOO.

Looks like the new early 0920 service from Crewe to Liverpool is running on time. Always seemed odd how the Sunday services used to start so late! This is a big improvement.

Near a bunch of sheds that aren't 66s.
Obviously may be and hopefully a premature statement to make, but is this already spinning out to be a repeat of GTR last summer? If today isn't doing so well imagine tomorrow when all the routes are joined up and splitting everywhere!

It did and was 8 coaches surprisingly quite busy. Lots got on at Acton Bridge to celebrate their first train on a Sunday for 40 years.

The Trent issues unfortunately I cant see being a quick fix. Most weekend work transferred from Crewe to Northampton crew but the amount of Northanpton crew who sign Crewe is far smaller than the amount of Crewe crew who all sign it.

We need to bear in mind that sundays run with a different timetable anyway

How the weekday timetable will play out is the big deal breaker for all new timetables

Is it me or Trent valley line is struggling today? Other line seems to be working fine?

"struggling" is an understatement. Two northbound cancellations in a row for an hourly service is absolutely ridiculous. Then another cancellation later, and two trains only making it from MKC to the trent valley. Big improvements!

Indeed, the Sunday timetable is quite simple. It's Monday that will be a house of cards.
Its funny how they have more trains running sunday evening than saturday evenings now
Another thing which hopefully will be fixed come december
Number of saturday evening trains matching monday-friday evening trains

I suspect that's more to do with allowing Network Rail to have engineering access on Saturday night/Sunday morning than anything else.

I agree. On the other hand the new Birmingham-Crewe via stoke ran without any problems. Monday will be the biggest test!

I wish they wouldn't change the timetables in exam season... Hope everyone with exams on Monday morning is prepared for if it goes wrong!

As with anything where not arriving is disastrous (like a once-a-week flight to the sun), ensure you leave plenty of time - don't take the train that gets you to school 10 minutes before the exam, get up early and arrive early. You can always sit outside and do some last minute reading.

Unfortunately for me, no study leave so still got lessons at the same time as exams :frown:

Meaning still catching the same old train. Iam just lucky that in Staffordshire the train time changes are not that big of a difference than before

Glad to hear it. Same as me I didn’t get a study leave. 10 odd years ago!

Timetable seems to be holding up quite well this morning through New Street!
I suppose the risks involved with the long distance diagrams may be more to do with delays through the day adding up and perhaps be more prone to delays in the evenings, will have to wait and see, but I hope it works well! The turn around times at Rugeley/International seem rather generous so hopefully they are enough to recover most delays.

I always leave 2 trains ahead of what I need. Gets a bit tedious waiting for lectures sometimes!

@RealTrains07 Sorry, should have wished you good luck from that quote too: Good luck!

Iam just as surprised as you, was expecting delays on most trains through birmingham today but actually The timetable has worked really well on all parts now compared to yesterday

So what i dont get is how GTR and Northern messed up so bad last year while LNR and SWR both managed to implement an overhauled timetable like they did with ease?

I think that the biggest problem with GTR, not sure about Northern, was the lack of route knowledge as effectively three separate franchises where merged into one big network with crews expected to work through. With the LNR/WMR timetable changes, yes route learning was involved, but in the main it is in areas that crews already knew as for example on the Rugeley to Euston services, I would expect that most of the crews would already have signed Walsall-Birmingham and Birmingham-Euston.

These are more toned down timetable introductions but really it's because for GTR (not too sure on the Northern side but something got to do with electrification on Blackpool line not being done on time and diesel trains from elsewhere used to cover the service) they didn't recruit and train enough drivers and didn't bother giving any notice to senior managers, DfT and Network Rail in regards to this. It wasn't the fact the timetable itself changed, it was the fact that half of the drivers didn't know how to drive a 700 and majority didn't sign any of the routes they were hired to do!
