First passenger refurb departure from Inverness will be 1B44 1333 to Edinburgh today.

It has produced which has made my day. The capacity was most definatly needed, was standing on the platform waiting for it to arive, I would have hated to think what it would have been like on a 170 or 158.

One of the refurbished sets worked out of Queen Street on Aberdeen services for a day in March or April. It was noted on this thread if you feel like trawling back through it all.

I missed that at the time, but thanks for that. I may have a trawl...

With the refurbs now in service between all 7 cities, does this mean (at least theoretically) that any service timed as an HST could be operated by either a classic or refurbed set?

2nd working from Inverness of an Inter7City refurbished set as well Today. The 1624 Inverness to Queen St is being worked by HA25

In theory, yes. There's still a good few train crew (myself included) who haven't had the conversion to the refurbished sets though. Hopefully that's imminent

I'm going to be up in Scotland bouncing around between the cities some time soon - is the timing load a reasonable guide as to which services are HSTs? I don't mind poshed-up or original.

It'll come down to whether there's enough crew trained to work them.
I would put bets on any service operated by Perth, Dundee, or Aberdeen crews, which, in theory, could be refurbs or classics.

The 5th set is nearly ready, it's replacing HA23 in Inverness for staff training. I guess once our training is complete, the Classic & Inter7City sets will be fully interchangeable, which, I would have thought, will make the diagramming much simpler

The fact that two refurbs have made it to Inverness today in service certainly is a positive sign anyway, and I imagine as training up your way progresses we'll see more of them.

Nice to see the HST operation starting to settle in. Slowly but surely.

Maybe a coincidence but, with the Etape Caledonia going on in and around Pitlochry today, I'm sure the extra capacity will be well used.

My thoughts too. We badly need the refurbished sets - the Classics might be fun to drive, but not great for station dwell times & a bit of a nightmare for the Conductors working them!

Other than short term alterations, RTT is accurate for the booked traction.

Just passed the refurb set on 16:24 from Inverness.
I am on the Northbound LNER chieftain with those original very low slumping squab seats, and am keen to compare comfort. After 5 hrs from York things are going a bit numb.....

I thought only NL65 had original seats

I only noted "craigentinny" named power car at the front. Defo those fixed armrest, soft squishy foam, low level seats with knobs on.

How many more units are going to ScotRail? I assumed ScotRail have all the units they need now but my mate seems to think otherwise

Surprising how many times both sets have made it up to Scotland.

I see one of the sets at least once or twice a week working up to Aberdeen, and on the odd occassion in Inverness.

Interesting to see it was the last HST journey from Paddington to Exeter today. Their loss is our gain.

BBC headline reads:

Hundreds bid farewell to high speed train

After more than 40 years of service, the old InterCity 125 trains have made their last journey

Well, not quite BBC.

Source: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-en...125-hundreds-bid-farewell-to-high-speed-train

They'll be about for at least 10 years possibly 15 or so.

It's the media though, always need a strong leading headline to catch the eye and to hell with perfect accuracy ;)
