Does anyone know if this ticket can be purchased from TVMs or ticket offices?

Was planning to travel on Greater Anglia from Cambridge to London today and to my surprise both Chiltern and Transpennine websites don’t offer this ticket, only the more expensive Any Permitted. It can however be bought from Greater Anglia online, however as there’s no advantage in buying from them I was hoping to buy it at the station, but given the lack of availability at Chiltern and TPx I was a bit concerned it might only be available online.

This is the ticket in question http://www.brfares.com/#faredetail?orig=CBG&dest=LST&grpd=1072&rte=20&tkt=SO1

That should be fine, I've purchased the return version with Priv from ticket offices at Liverpool Street, Stratford and Hackney Central in the past.

Thanks. I wonder why it isn’t available on other websites, I didn’t think this was a promotional fare or other special offer like Tocs sometimes do by applying a discount? It does appear on Raileasy.

It's been available for quite some time, but I've only ever found it on sites such as GA, VT and Raileasy. Sites which use WebTIS (if that's what it's called) have never retailed it AFAIK.

Just in case anyone was wondering, this ticket is sold on the TVMs at Cambridge station. No idea why it seems to be so hard to come by online though.

Did it work in any ticket gates or did you have to be let through manually?

The Travelcard equivalent doesn't appear to work in any NR ticket gates, including the GA ones at Cambridge, Tottenham Hale and Liverpool Street :( They've been issuing these for a year, and they still don't work even in the most obvious places... (Fortunately they do work fine in Underground ticket gates).

See this recent (February) thread on the same issue - in particular post #6 - though that was regarding a return ticket (code SO2) and the OP of this thread was querying the single ticket (code SO1).

ForTheLoveOf suggests that it's the unusual ticket type codes (i.e. SO1, SO2) that is the root of the issue.

The gate logic has to be updated to accept the new ticket type (e.g. HY for SO1/SO2 - or HW for the AM3 travelcard).
