Arriva TrainCare, a seperate division of Arriva UK Trains to any of its operators (Arriva Trains Wales ceased being a train operating company on the 14th of October 2018 and moved its registered office from Cardiff to Sunderland for winding down). Transport for Wales (previously ATW) depots are Cardiff Canton, Alstom Chester and Machynlleth with allocation, and Holyhead for stabling

Which begs the question...I wonder how many have actually been built? Especially as they've churned out a good few WA Units...

Passenger service paths have been added to the Barking - Gospel Oak timetable as from Wed 22 May. These will be two class 710 units alongside the 3 class 378s giving a broadly x15 service but with occasional 30 min gaps. The extra workings use the 2Gxx ID alongside the 2Jxx which the 378s use. The two extra trains run from approximately 0700 to 2200. It's not yet clear what will happen over the weekend although a full 15 min service is currently showing in Realtimetrains but as you all know better than me these things can change closer to the time.

Looks like the 0748 from Barking will be the first 710-operated service tomorrow. Data is now in journey planners but no official announcement from London Overground yet. Looks like this is the softest of soft launches.

I would be amazed if TfL announce anything in advance. Why set themselves up to fail if anything should go wrong between now and then to stop them running? (And of course, I know they should be giving passengers the good news that more trains are running, but that’s a different story altogether)

Or because there are no passenger 710s booked out tomorrow and some people have just run away with excitement on placeholder paths?!?

It was communicated elsewhere by a Wilesden driver that these paths were not just placeholder paths there was a concrete plan to run this particular service on either Wednesday or Thursday this week, these timings were murmured as such long before the RTT ones were available.

Whether or not it will run tomorrow or Thursday is a different story entirely but they (Bombardier) are ready to give it a go in the not too distant future.

Can't have been concrete - drivers diagrams can go out with caveats because of when they need to be done by. These paths have been in for a while as its clearly not going to go on top of the 378 paths but in the gap - placeholders.

A driver at Gospel Oak today (Tues) told me that the 710s will start on Thursday. I am always sceptical...

Wasn’t concrete - drivers diagrams can go out with caveats because of when they need to be done by. It won’t be a 07xx start on the first day whether that would be tomorrow, Thursday or last week!

Thank you for this. You’ll be pleased to know I’m fully aware of how diagrams work :E

It seems that the early workings on Thursday have now been removed (and of course Wednesday's workings all cancelled) - reckon a mid-morning introduction is more likely than one in the morning peak.

Our local councillor has just shared the following (I live by Leyton Midland Road station) ...

Dear Councillor

I’m very pleased to let you know that the first of the brand new four-car electric trains will enter passenger service on the Gospel Oak to Barking line tomorrow, Thursday 23 May 2019.

This is the first step towards returning the service on this line to the regular timetable of four trains per hour, boosting capacity and reliability. The new electric trains, built by Bombardier Transportation in Derby, will carry almost 700 people, doubling the capacity of the old diesel trains that were previously operating on the line, and improving air quality along the route.

As you know, issues with software development on the new trains resulted in delays to their introduction. However, they have now been approved by the rail regulator for passenger service on this line. Two of the new trains will start on the line this week, in addition to the modified electric trains that have been used as an interim measure since January. The new trains will allow us to run additional services on weekdays and weekends to complement the current two trains per hour interim timetable.

Together with the London Overground’s operator, Arriva Rail London, we will monitor the new trains closely as they enter service to ensure they operate reliably. Once we are satisfied there are no operating issues, more trains will be put into service and it is expected the regular 15 minute frequency will be restored later in the summer.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience the situation has been causing to our customers and thank them for their patience. We will be offering a month of free travel for customers on this line from September to show our appreciation. This was secured by the Mayor and is being funded by Bombardier Transportation. We will provide more detail on how this will work closer to the time.

If you have any questions, please do get in touch.

As I tried to point out before this is exactly what the plan is/was. The reason for the cancellation today was a slight issue ORR paperwork. There are actually a few units to choose from with the updated working software. I expect a rotation on these units over the next couple of weeks to keep the mileage balanced. Subject to everything being successful tomorrow a staggered roll-out is the theory from now.

But just note as everything 710 related theory and reality can often be quite different. Those descisions come from above my grade.

I know all this ... I thought it’d useful to see the information TfL has finally put in the public domain. Won’t bother next time.

Always useful to see how much of soft launch they are up to.

On the contrary. It’s always good to communicate things that you have seen/heard. That’s the point of this thread.

Don’t ever feel like your contribution isnt valued. I was just drawing to attention to the fact that this had been communicated earlier by myself and others and was told in a roundabout way we were talking speculative nonsense. So believe me I share your sentiment at times of not bothering :D

Let’s see how they cope when you add probably the biggest curveball...passengers.

Please do bother. Not all of us who are interested in the progress of these trains have access to councillor notices or Facebook groups. I understand your feelings - my witterings on here are regularly ignored or dismissed.

@zebedee104 @20atthemagnetMember - please know that your insights and contributions are appreciated - it's not that hard for most of us to separate informed posts from speculation.

@SeaKing I would suspect that depends on how fast those already at Willesden enter service - presumably there is a space issue with stabling! I'll be intrigued to see how they perform as they (at last!) enter service tomorrow. I can't imagine I'll be the only one looking out for them during the day (I live in Stroud Green, between Crouch Hill and Green Lanes stations so it's only a few minutes walk away).

Free travel in September is interesting, I wonder how they decided how much Bombardier would contribute, as a lot of journeys won't be just on the Goblin (e.g. someone changing from another line only paying one Oyster fare for the whole journey)
