What is the cheapest way to travel from Edinburgh Airport to the City Centre?

Also, is it possible to get a day ticket for travel on buses in Edinburgh for the day's I am there.

Thanks

By bus, the service 100 runs every 10 minutes and a full day ticket costs £9.

You can get an Edinburgh day ticket, valid on bus and tram, at a cost of £4. Snag is this isn't valid on any service from the airport, so you would have to walk down to Ingliston Park and Ride to catch the tram, if you search this option online you can find detailed instructions, though it looks about a mile. Obviously this won't be advertised or signposted as such since there is a blatant ripoff in place trying to force people to pay more than double to access public transport from the airport.

Is that GBP9.00 ticket for bus 100 also valid on the tram from the airport? If the walk down to the next stop isn't too bad that is a good option to get it down to GBP4.00, moreover given it's going to be a 9am arrival time in daylight with the day free. Likewise on the return.

Yes it is valid on the bus and tram. You can see the walking route on google street view. There used to be bus 35 which was covered by the £4 day ticket but this was rebranded to 300 and made more expensive.

I've done it in winter, in the snow.. You follow the tram tracks away from the airport, pleasant walk slightly downhill to ingliston Park and ride tram stop, worth it to save a fiver (on principle) , although I only went the one way, trams every few minutes to the city...

Is there anything apart from onboard revenue inspector to stop someone going past Ingilston on tram or bus on cheaper fare?

Never been to EA on the tram without there being a ticket inspection when you arrive / want to leave.

The very cheapest way to get from Edinburgh Airport in to Edinburgh City Centre is to walk from the Airport Terminal to the Ingliston Airport Junction Roundabout bus stop (a short 10 minute walk) and then take the First Bus 24/25/38/N25 from there which will cost you just £1.60 Single Ticket or £2.80 Return Ticket or £4.00 Day Ticket (note that the First Bus [Edinburgh Zone] day tickets and the Lothian Buses [Edinburgh Zone] day tickets are not valid on each others buses). If you do the First Bus option than i would recommend specifically waiting for the 38 service as it gives change where as the 24/25/N25 services are all exact fare only. You can also take the Boness Community Bus C19 service for the same exact price as First Bus but it is much less convenient as it only runs five times a day in each direction (so roughly a frequency of every three hours in each direction).

Here is a full complete list of what all of your different options are:

----------------

• Boness Community Bus (C19) from Ingliston Airport Junction Roundabout (a 10 minute walk from the Airport Terminal building):
· Single Ticket - £1.60
· Return Ticket - £2.80
· Day Ticket - N/A

• Edinburgh Tram (T50) from the Airport Terminal:
· Single Ticket - £6.00
· Return Ticket - £8.50
· Day Ticket - £9.00

• Edinburgh Tram (T50) from Ingliston Park & Ride (a 10 minute walk from the Airport Terminal building):
· Single Ticket - £1.70
· Return Ticket - £3.20
· Day Ticket - £4.00

• First Bus (24/25/38/N25) from Ingliston Airport Junction Roundabout (a 10 minute walk from the Airport Terminal building):
· Single Ticket - £1.60
· Return Ticket - £2.80
· Day Ticket - £4.00

• Lothian Buses (100/200/300/400) from the Airport Terminal:
· Single Ticket - £4.50
· Return Ticket - £7.50
· Day Ticket - £9.00

• Lothian Buses (20/63/275/X17/X18) from Ingliston Airport Junction Roundabout (a 10 minute walk from the Airport Terminal building):
· Single Ticket - £1.70
· Return Ticket - N/A
· Day Ticket - £4.00

• Lothian Buses (200/300/400) from Ingliston Park & Ride (a 10 minute walk from the Airport Terminal building):
· Single Ticket - £1.70
· Return Ticket - N/A
· Day Ticket - £4.00

----------------

Unfortunately just like most airports Edinburgh Airport really rips you off with their public transport unless you walk to a nearby stop as mentioned in the examples above although unfortunately most tourists won't know this information and Edinburgh Airport certainly won't tell them about it.

I've not seen any comparable local airport service where the cost of the fare is more than doubled just to travel a few hundred yards from the last stop prior to the airport, although doubtless someone will find one. Manchester's tram network doesn't have this airport rip-off, although you could argue that ALL tram travel in Manchester is overpriced. As Edinburgh is a great tourist city, this needs to be highlighted locally as tourists could well decide that their first taste of Scottish hospitality is to be defrauded!

Glasgow does not do it but its airport bus price is around double Lothians.

Can only think of Sydney trains to its airport with a supplement
