Hiya,

Next month I'll be flying into Stansted and then taking public transport home (London).

I have a Zones 1-6 Annual Oyster, so is it possible to buy a Stansted to Zone 6 Boundary ticket or is it the case that for the Express there is just one fare and that's what you pay, with no 'shortcuts' by way of having the aforementioned travelcard?

Furthermore, it's a Gold card, so is the 34% discount applicable here or is, as I fear, this service a bit of a law unto itself?

Many thanks in advance for any information.

That’s fine - here are the fares; http://www.brfares.com/#expert?orig=SSD&dest=0072&rlc=NGC

Yes, the Stansted Express is no different from any other normal train service in terms of fares. It's not even non-stop so I think the name is very undeserved!

Exactly, there are no higher fares like with the Gatwick or Heathrow Express services, which would make sense given it is not actually an Express service. As for the name I think it should renamed Stanstead Connect to reflect the fact it has intermediate stops en route.

You will need to buy your ticket from the Stansted Express booking office on the basement level, rather than from ticket booths or machines on the arrivals floor which will only sell fares to Liverpool Street or Tottenham Hale.

Some Greater Anglia clerks will only sell you a ticket to a named station, which would be Enfield Lock on this route. You should resist this and ask for Boundary Zone 6 as it’s 50p cheaper. The code they would need to enter is 0072.

Don’t forget to show your Gold Record Card for a discount if travelling at an eligible time.

Well it's certainly an express compared to the buses...are they not timed for 90 minutes? Much better choice!

Depends which specific coach route you're referring to - but yes the NatEx A7 takes 90 mins to get to Waterloo, and ends up at Victoria Coach Station.

However the better coach choice is to Stratford, timetabled for 50 minutes (both operators).

I have a similar question which I hope I can ask here, I have a Z1 to 6 travelcard with a Network Railcard now I'm intending to travel on a Saturday - I don't know Liverpool Street too well but do I just ask for a Boundary Zone 6 to Stansted Airport return?

Equally can I buy this extension onboard at all or only from ticket offices?

Equally I see two fares that I can use on a Saturday but have no idea what one of the fares means!

NSE £13.05
CHNSE £3.75

What on earth does the bottom fare mean?

You can't buy the BZ extension on board. You must purchase it before travel.

The CHNSE fare is the fare for a child accompanying a Network Railcard holder.
