To Philipe,Dan and Steve ,thank you for the information that has led me to conclude that i did indeed mis-id the unit.

Now deleted 156433 from my travel log - up in Glasgow in May for a Central Scot Rover so hopefully may re enter my haulage spreadsheet then

Meanwhile another visit booked - Specsavers (mmm could it have been 483 !)

156438 is the only 15643x unit that Northern have and that is in the new Northern livery so perhaps it was that one you had? If you're not sure which unit you had but would like it for the records it'd be worth doing a TOPS request: https://www.railforums.co.uk/thread...ns-traction-etc-instructions-in-post-2.86602/

The diagram starting 5A00 ex Heaton is 158843-HT unit today.
The diagram starting 2A02 Ex Carlisle is 158845-NL unit today.
So 845 replaced 871 which went down the S&C yesterday on 2H67. 845 presumably worked up on 2H66 Leeds-Carlisle.
Just to confuse things further, yesterday 158845 (NL unit)worked diagram starting Heaton and 156486 worked the diagram from Carlisle, instead of a 158.

Seems to be some 158 confusion on here. HT currently have an allocation of 9, soon to be 12, 158's. The planned diagram cycle sees them work the Tyne Valley then down S&C and work around Yorkshire before spending another day on the S&C before returning back to HT in time for the A Exam. Of the initial allocation of 9 you'll typically find 5 either on the S&C or in Yorkshire at any one time with the other 4 on maintenance or working the Tyne Valley etc diagrams..

What will be the final allocations roughly when the 195s and 331s enter service and when the 142s/153s/321s/322s/323s leave the northern franchise?
I'm also not believing anything about the 323s until i see one in the new northern colours.
Hope this is the right thread since there's to many.

Earlier on this thread it was mentioned that Heaton was to recieve all of Northerns 14 Perkins engined 158s plus 2 more. Seems a bit random at the moment.
Thinking of the future if the Northerns NT - Carlisle Connect service is interworked with the S and C then connect spec units should appear there.

If I read the situation right from the posts it’s currently 9 Heaton based units but half the time in Yorkshire until May as Darlington crews are only just starting to be trained on them (Currently 2 North East service based diagrams then a spare or 2 for crew training / maintenance). Come May more should arrive as Newcastle - Carlisle is currently stated to go half hourly so the extra units will be useful. Then maybe a couple extra in December if the Middlesbrough Connect services start

Today produced 156420 (NH) unit on set starting at Carlisle. A 158 definitely worked yesterday's diagram that finished at Carlisle (probably 845). As I have never seen a 156 on the S&C, not sure how the 158 was swapped for the 156. NH 156s sometimes work on Cumbria Coast but if it was from there, the 158 would have had to work to Barrow in Furness and I've never seen one on the CC line.
The second set from HT was also a 156 today, identity unknown.

I'm reliably informed that:

158843 is a Neville Hill unit
158845 is a Heaton unit
158871 is a Neville Hill unit

The last 156 over the S&C was 156444 on 25 January; 1M53 with 153363/153304!

I've just seen 150107 (pictured) in London Midland livery, at Manchester Piccadilly, working a Northern service to Buxton. I didn't know Northern were getting units from the West Midlands? Does anyone know when this happened?

About 2 weeks ago. There is also 150105 and 150109

One (uid) was on the Sheffield - Worksop - Gainsbrough services yesterday, so the ex-LM units seem to have been sprinkled across the whole franchise, in case anyone needs one for sight/traction.

Northern seems to have cascaded a 144 onto the Leeds Nottingham service today. Pity it was cancelled from Chesterfield because it was too slow.

Nothing to do with speed and everything to do with 14x not being cleared for passenger service south of Chesterfield.

I realise this is looking sometime into the future... but, there will at some point be a whole load of Sprinters going from the TfW fleet including, as I understand it, all the 158s which were refurbished not all that long ago. Does anyone think there's any chance that some of these units might find their way to Northern? Or are they earmarked for elsewhere?

it's 109 units in total that will be made surplus by the 148 (total) CAF and Stadler units in 2022-2023:

36 150/2s, 13 153s, 24 158/0s, 11 175/0s, 16 175/1s, 5 769/0s and 4 769/4s. I don't believe that any of those units are yet "wanted" by any other TOCs. I was thinking Northern myself though - the 150/2s especially would be good to make up to 72 of those "hybrid" three-car 150s they were going to do, right...?
