Well, better that it's ironed out now rather than following entry into service. When are the 185s due to go off-lease?
The 22 units going off lease are scheduled to be handed back between 13th October this year and 31st March 2020, though that's always been subject to the new trains entering service in time.

3H69 operated from Crewe Down Refuge Sidings to Manchester International Depot today (Nothing left MID this morning so was unexpected for me) this was powered by 68031 'Felix' and what I believe to be set TP04. I caught up with it at Heald Green shortly after getting the Nova 1 (Been a busy Nova day!)

TPE Ask the Manager session:

‘Hello, we are looking forward to introducing our new Nova 3s later this year. We will provide specific service dates as soon as we can. Watch this space ;) ^Luke’

Later this year, rather than ‘during the summer’!

Points about file sizes of pictures duly noted. Sampling down files on iPhone is easy to do, so no problem.

I did think the comments about: ‘loco spotter’, your pictures ‘have spoiled my enjoyment of the thread’, your posts about light engine moves are ‘boring’, were all a bit much.

Anyone would think I had committed a crime, rather than being an enthusiast who simply wanted to make a positive contribution to the thread...

I feel there were some unfair comments made. It was also notable how little has been contributed to this thread by some of those holding such strong opinions of what should appear in here!

Anyone who requires info that is tailored to their personal requirements could create their own thread, where they would be able to make their demands clear.

The post about resizing images was very fair and constructive.

As last night's Mk5A run was cancelled, I had to make do with a photo on my mobile of a dirty diesel without Annie or Clarabel. Without the construction of Mk5A's, this photo would not have been possible, as these locomotives were prohibited from Platform 2 and the Maintenance Road/Examination Siding at York station.

I hope some people like it, even though others clearly won't. It has been resized down ;)

Many thanks. One wonders why with so many tables it was still not possible to ensure that the seats line up with the windows!

It's priority seats that wreck it, mostly.

FWIW, today, for I think the first time ever, I saw someone who would appear to be a "priority seat" priority actually sitting in one on a LNR train. Normally, as I've stated before, such people prefer tighter-pitch seats so they can sit down holding the seat back in front, which makes a mockery of the way these seats knacker the layout.

I know not every disability is visible, but mostly priority seats appear to be occupied by one of two things - tall blokes or people who want to put their suitcase by their knees.

My own prejudice against airline seats stem from being a 6’3’’ Crosscountry Voyager commuter. As such, I have always preferred tables.

Having experienced the superior leg-room of the IET on GWR (albeit with harder seats), I am becoming a convert to the airline seat. I wonder whether a standard of a 50/50 split would please everyone? The IET, with 8 tables per standard coach and decent leg-room throughout, seems to me to be a happy medium.

The Class 158 as-built layout, which alternates the two with full window alignment, is about as perfect a layout as I can imagine - but as noted, priority seats wreck it due to the specification for these which makes no actual sense.

IET for XC, anyone?

Yes, definitely. 7-car sets with one end coach as 1st would be ideal.

Monday and Tuesday 68031 with TP04 completed the MID-Carlisle-Crewe-MID circuit.

Today’s Longsight-Carlisle set off 99 late and turned back at Carnforth.

presumably to pick up its south bound path, Carnforth to Crewe.

68027/68019 York Siemens Depot
68022/68028 York Siemens Depot
68032 Scarborough (driver learner/refresher loco)
68024 York (driver learner/refresher loco)

Sorry not to have had time to reply individually to various comments made over the weekend.

Once again, many thanks for the round up.

Software problems - wonder if this is CAF's end or Stadler's. Are DRS being paid for all these locos that are liveried up but just doing the occasional runs every week? Must be expensive for TPE to keep them leased whilst not doing much.

Expensive yes, but much cheaper than paying the leasing on all the delayed CAF stock. There’s over a year and half’s saving in there on the carriages, will be almost a year on the 397s.

Interestingly for those debating the merits of posts that are solely about Class 68 loco's - the layout includes the Loco, thus it could be argued that a Class 68 is PART of a Nova 3 and therefore on-topic.

The 68 is most definitely an integral part of Nova 3.

Without the specially modified 68's (and the odd 86!), TPE's Mk5A's wouldn't be going very far...

That was certainly the diagram 68031 and TP04 worked yesterday.

I think the reason it starts back at Crewe rather than MID is that there are some night time Crewe to Liverpool runs (first one observed by a friend at Crewe with 68031 plus TP04)

18:26 MID-Crewe
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K97152/2019/05/22/advanced

20:21 Crewe-Liverpool Lime Street
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K97149/2019/05/22/advanced

21:58 Liverpool Lime Street-Crewe
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K97153/2019/05/22/advanced

22:37 Crewe-Liverpool Lime Street
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K97150/2019/05/22/advanced

01:30 Liverpool Lime Street-Crewe
http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/K97150/2019/05/22/advanced

...and then the diagram you mentioned.

That’s a lovely image. I arrived about 20:00 and by then the 68 was blocked by 185 118, I did start to wonder if some forum members who object to pictures might have friends in high places;)

Just out of interest, why were the 68s prohibited from platform 2 prior to the TPE workings?

I may be wrong, but I believe it was a weight restriction - which applied to pretty much all locomotives, although the odd few have appeared over the years! I can't check right now, but I think 68's are the only ones that are currently allowed- such is the way these things work nowadays...

Priority Seats do have several valid uses for a range of passengers, particularly people with limited mobility who need to be assisted onto the train, not the mention those with an assistance dog. Most TOC policies for Customers with assistance dogs are that two priority seats are occupied - one for the customer and one for the dog to make use the leg room.

Testing of Nova 3 has been pretty intensive this past week.

In addition to the usual trips to Carlisle/Crewe/Bletchley, two nights there were workings to Liverpool Lime Street. These called at Hartford, Acton Bridge, and Runcorn. I wonder if these were to test the software that has been causing problems on the TPE training runs?

Give or take the odd chain, I make the mileage just short of 1900 miles. Interesting to think that will be an ‘easy’ week once they start over the Pennines with some diagrams working out at over 800 miles a day!

Full workings below.

Yorkshire report
Anyone not interested in locos, look away now;)

68032 ‘Destroyer’ Scarborough (driver training)
68024 ‘Centaur’ York (driver training)
68027 ‘Splendid’ and 68028 ‘Lord President’ York P SD

68019 ‘Brutus’ and 68022 ‘Resolution’ York Siemens Depot.

An intensive day of driver training planned today with both 68024 and 68032 scheduled to be in operation:

http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/sea.../26/0000-2359?stp=S&show=all&order=wtt&toc=TP

In addition, there are paths in Monday to Friday for

0P68 04:55 Longsight to York
0M68 09:15 York to Longsight

Given 68027/28 are on York P SD, I’d guess they will be candidates for a trip back to Manchester.

Of the locos in TPE livery, just 68025 Superb remains as having not visited York, I wonder if this will be a ‘red pen’ week;)

I saw this set working back from Bletchley on Thursday and as it was held at Stafford for 15 minutes I asked the driver if it was now on full crew training or still accumulating mileage and his response was something along the lines of 'it's still got a few hundred miles of fault free running to do' which I took to mean it was nearing the end, so your maths are probably right in that after the Friday run it would have been touching 2000 miles
