Hello - hoping some Guru can assist us. We are new to UK and public transport systems and especially need help on which travel card/season ticket to purchase.

Route - Wimbledon Chase to Maidenhead (return)

Monday to Friday

Arrive Maidenhead 08:45
Depart Maidenhead 17:45

Currently PAYG - Wimbledon Chase - Wimbledon- Paddington - Maidenhead.

Issue with this route is there is a 20 min wait from Wimbledon to W Chase.

Which season ticket can you advise (and where do we buy it) and if you can optimize route that would be awesome too! Looked at Farringdon option but that had an additional change :-/

Thanks in advance - much appreciated!!

You can't use Oyster/contactless to Maidenhead.
The best ticket is probably an Anytime Travel card from Maidenhead (£30) or an Anytime Return to Wimbledon Chase (£28.90)

You can also go Maidenhead - Paddington - Farrington (Hammersmith & City line) - Wimbledon Chase (Thameslink)
The upshot is with going via Farringdon, you can go both ways round the Sutton loop, so there's 4tph

Which isn't much use as the OP is going to Maidenhead from Wimbledon Chase so the travelcard will most likely get retained by the barriers.

Only 2tph to Wimbledon Chase from Farringdon, as why would you want to go via Sutton as those trains are slower than waiting the ~ 15 minutes for the next 'via Tooting' Sutton service?

The OP is asking about season tickets so a Maidenhead - London Zones 1-6 ticket would work at £101.40 per week/£389.40 a month/£4,056 per annum.

Why not just walk to Wimbledon instead of waiting for a 1 stop train? You could also take a bus, or even the tram if the stop is nearer. With a travelcard all of these modes are valid

Thank you so much Hadders & Paddington - your comments were very helpful.

Just to confirm - if we buy a travel card £389.40 - we can use that to go on tube/train/bus/tram for that period?

The tram is a great idea as it stops close as well! So many options available just to find the one that works best!

Yes, throughout zones 1-6, 7 days a week and as often as you like. And you can test out the various route permutations.

Yes, a weekly, monthly, annual etc. Travelcard from Maidenhead to London Zones 1-6 lets you undertake unlimited travel at any time on almost any mode of public transport within Zones 1-6, as well as unlimited travel at any time between Maidenhead and the boundary of Zone 6. You don't have to undertake any particular pattern of commuting to use this season ticket - you don't have to start in Maidenhead, you can use it however you like, at any time on any day of the week.

There's a useful map of Rail & Tube services within the London Zones here, which details the few exceptions to Travelcard validity.

Having previously lived nearby Wimbledon Chase, I would usually walk into Wimbledon. Traffic along Kingston Road towards the Merton Park tram crossing in the morning (and back along Hartfield Road) meant that the buses could take the same time or longer; and Thameslink at the time was not the most reliable.

I just wanted to make it clear that you can't share the ticket - it's for your fiancé only, you need your own ticket to travel, with or without him.

It may seem obvious, though we do get posts in the disputes forum where newbies believed that tickets could be swapped - which is very much not the case with season tickets.
