Flew BA today to Stockholm, they were good, the seats were comfortable and had a good pitch.

I didn't think the Cabin crew were as good as the ones on easyJet

I haven't looked at that thing about bringing that airline back, but I feel it is indeed a waste.

The other day I booked myself onto Luton to Budapest and back for my time off in September. I settled for Wizz Air in the end, a new airline for me and I hope I won't regret it!

I also finally got 100% confirmation of my two weeks in January 2020. Only problem is that I won't now be able to afford to book New Zealand, which is what I planned to use that time off for. Not a clue what I will do with that time off yet, but I suspect a lightbulb moment will be had soon. If I had found the confirmation of January's time off sooner (it was mixed in with requests from 2 years ago!) I'd have not booked Japan. Oh well, something will get booked eventually I'm sure. Whether or not it will involve aviation remains to be seen!

As for Manchester Airport, I'm not a huge fan of it myself either. I think I detailed that sufficiently in my Australia trip report. That being said I still prefer to the dump that is Leeds-Bradford...

Am sure you will have a great time in Budapest, lovely place with lots to do. Flown with Wizzair a few times and never had a problem other than some of the older aircraft were a bit uncomfortable for me. Flight out to Katowice in January was great, flight back was too hot and cramped.

BA will use retro liveried 747s on domestic rotations to Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow on 25th August to celebrate their centenary. Tickets almost all gone now but might be interesting if you live nearby the airport

That sounds amazing. A brilliant idea.

Flew SmartLynx (Thomas Cook) yesterday (and a two weeks ago). Rather "tired" A321 on the outbound to Zakynthos, similar condition A320 on the way back from Preveza. Broken tray tables, holes in arm rests where bits of the old entertainment system have been broken, limited leg room. Utter joy. But they flew to/from the airports I wanted to go to from Stansted, which for Cambridge is by far and away the most conveniant.

Flew on a BA A321 back to London on Saturday evening, wasn't impressed with the seat pitch, felt worse than EZY tbh.
No USB chargers on this plane either

Geordie back from exile.
Back from a little 3 day trip HK to Tokyo on Cathay, such a great city to visit.

CX524 was the outbound with B773 B-HNP doing the honours. Great flight with 3 seats to myself to get a bit of sleep on the overnight flight. 8/10
CX521 as the return with A350-1000 B-LXK the ride. Not the best flight, very busy and incredibly cramped in the cheap seats. IFE was great but the USB chargers not working, cabin service less than average and the whole cabin way too warm. 5/10. (only that many as it was my first A35K- not looking for another anytime soon).

I'm going to Tokyo in November, flying in from Frankfurt on a 787 with JAL. Flying out with BA back to Heathrow. Any particularly interesting must-do things you would recommend in Tokyo?

Narita still has a viewing area, at least on T2 where I was, not the best but OK. Haneda is closer to the city and has some good spotting areas too apparently. I took the NEX into and out of town from Narita for 4000 Yen round trip. Stayed in Yotsuya, Tokyo is great for trains too. I was only really there 3 days so not a lot of time to do much but great city to visit.

Thanks for the swift reply!

I'm there for less than 3 days myself, by the time I get into the city from Narita. Thanks for the price gen on NEX, I will probably use that but I am tempted by that bus link. Looks good value but will make a final decision nearer the time. After all I'm still trying to plan something for my two weeks off in January, good chance it'll be something aviation related and featuring something on my travel wishlist...

Good to know on the viewing areas, I'm out of Haneda at 9-something on the return leg but if I have time, even just 15 minutes, to use such a facility I won't say no!

I'm not into all the museums and the like, so my visit to Japan will be just long enough. I have a tendency to be awake early, which is ideal for city exploration. More time to do stuff before it gets too busy, especially handy to avoid crowds as I do like to walk quickly.

Only trains I'm all that interested in over there is the Bullet Train. Yes there's some weird and wonderful stuff in use in Japan, but most of it is not of interest to me. I'm hoping to have a ride on a Bullet Train, to experience the sheer power and speed of one, but as long as I get to see them in action that will do just fine.

I'm so excited for this trip that I already have the backstory part of the trip report typed up!

Only the Neos have charging points, I don't think there are plans to fit the Ceos with them.

The A319 out had USB chargers (G-EUPY)

Interesting, thanks. I'm not sure what BA's fleet strategy is with short-haul at the moment, the Neos were expected to displace some A319s to Gatwick but it's looking like some of them may be going straight out of the fleet.

Senso-ji temple, oldest in Tokyo and accessible on Tokyo Metro to Asakusa station
The Shibuya Crossing for an Instagram story at least
Imperial Palace Garden
Bullet train to Odawara and Hakone then Hakone-Yumoto mountain railway and cable car
Saitama Railway Museum, at Omiya on the JR Takasaki line

The local rail transport is extremely easy to use and efficient. Stations and trains have some English signage but occasionally you need to use Google to make full sense of the routes and fares but it's very accurate.

The JAL 787s are the only ones anywhere with 2-4-2 seating, good choice.

The "densified" ceos have USB and universal power sockets in the potentially Club Europe section (i.e., all rows going back as far as the Club Europe divider can go), and the remainder of the cabin has USB sockets; as far as I'm aware all the ceos that are staying are getting this.

Thanks! Shall look more thoroughly at that later, as I'm getting ready for work presently, but sounds like some good ideas. I'd forgotten about those world-famous diagonal crossings!

As for JAL, we'll wait and see if it was a good call or not with their 787, hoping so!

Wow, where did you fly on it to?

That would have been Heathrow to Ringway in January 2018 when we needed to know if our son, who has issues with travel sickness in cars, would have any problems on airliners because he was booked with a pilgrimage group to go to Lourdes that Easter. The short hop on that sector looked like an idea test, so I booked myself and him a return flight ( we came back on G-EUUL on the immediately following diagram ); in the event he had no problems at all so he was able to go to Lourdes.

The BA staff on board were very good and when they realised, before we disembarked, that we were going straight back they kept us airside by taking us straight off the aircraft and into the departure lounge through the boarding passage and carried out the check in confirmation at the gate desk.

Meanwhile... Probably not what Boeing needed right now is it...?

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2019/06/03/boeing-finds-new-problem-737-planes/

Airlines have been ordered to check more than 300 Boeing 737 planes because they may have wing components prone to cracking.

Boeing said so-called leading edge slat tracks may not have been made properly and pose a safety risk. The parts allow the wing to expand to create more lift during takeoff and landing.

The Federal Aviation Administration will tell airlines to check whether the deficient parts were installed on their planes and replace them if necessary. A complete failure would not result in a crash but could cause damage during flight, the FAA said.

Boeing will send replacement parts to help reduce the amount of time aircraft are out of service.

I'm sure I've flown on the majority of the Heathrow G-EUxx fleet now if not all, but I couldn't for the life of me tell you which and where. I've definitely taken PY as well
I must have taken a large amount of it (not least on the GLA–LHR shuttle flights), but alas I only know what individual aircraft I've been on back to early 2017! Not been on G-EUPY since then, at least. (Indeed, the only BA A319s I've been on since are G-EUPR and G-EUPW.)

Looks like I'll be flying on G-POWM with Titan, instead of a TUI 737 to Verona in a few weeks time
