Hi all, I'm planning on travelling to glasgow-Preston via the Settle on a diversion which will be a Voyager, could people tell me from past experience what the service is like at weekends, such as is first class busy? what are the complimentary refreshments and do you have to collect your stuff from the shop or is there a trolley service?

I can confirm that you can receive complimentary tea/coffee/hot chocolate/water/yucky coke, alongside crisps/very nice orange & milk chocolate cookies/ shortbread, from the shop in Coach D.

I actually got offered my first lot of refreshments at-seat yesterday, as we left Preston for the S&C, but that was only because it was extremely quiet and they appeared to have a few catering staff onboard the train.

Despite 'duff' gen on one of the yahoo groups (May have been the 'virgin-trains' one) saying that the diversions were going to be wedged in, as a result of 5-car sets running every 2 hours, in place of the usual more frequently ran service via the LD, my train was incredibly quiet in both directions. The same happened last year.

Hardly surprising; people look at the journey times and find another day to travel (if they enjoy that option). Must admit I prefer the drags for a wonderful peaceful journey over the S&C without a diesel engine disturbing the peace of my carriage (he ducks quickly).

Saw a Voyager doing the Euston train at Coventry last weekend. Barely see 57's these days :(

Wasnt that one of the reasons for splitting most of the WCML from XC that their Voyagers would be used during diversions to mainly eliminate the drags?

The saturdays only 08:50 from Euston to Holyhead and 14:36 return is a Pendolino drag between Crewe and Holyhead. :D

Once again money wasted on clearance trips with 57+390's over routes that Virgin have no intention on taking them over. I dont like ethier 390's or 221's. But would much rather be on a 390, for the quiteness. Wont be travelling on them, but may go to Hellifield tomorrow afternoon for a couple of hours.
