What's the problem?
A door problem created when they were converted to DOO for GTR which has only just been found to be dangerous - there are some posts with more detail upthread.
Even after a few days of being able to digest this, I can’t get my head around it. Why would GTR remove a safety feature, why would it be allowed, and why is it essential for DO operation?
Given that both the 707 and 455 classes have spacers between the seats without obstructive seat heaters, they would be better than the 450s. It means two people sit on two seats with plenty of aisle standing space.The main part of the "no450" campaign was wanting 2&2 seats, was it not?

Apologies that this is slightly off topic with the 442, but does anyone have access to the revised peak time diagrams (list of 444/450) for the Portsmouth Direct running from tomorrow? (Without the 442s?)
Diagrams for trains arriving at Waterloo between 7 and 10 and departing Waterloo between 4 and 7 would be brilliant if anyone has access.
There are no diagrams for without the 442s, as it’s likely to only be a couple of weeks or so delay and Control will be managing the substitution of 442s by other rolling stock released from the pausing of the desiro refresh.
Waterloo Diagrams are without 442s. And the delay will be more than a couple of weeks. SWR Company Council have notified SWR of the problems that need to address and fixed before they enter traffic

Their prestige reminds me of the 'Clactons' (class 309), which were much lauded on their introduction in 1962 (the first 100mph EMUs in the UK), and had elegant curved cab windows, as with the 442s. I've never understood the 442s' 'Plastic Pig' nickname, given that the railway fraternity and passengers alike have given positive reactions.There's something admirable about the Porkers. They just will not go quietly into the night. Every time we think they've been withdrawn, they get a refurbishment and turn up somewhere on the old Southern Region network. Now they're back on their original patch, Waterloo to Bournemouth and beyond.
Well at least “plastic pig” is a regular nickname, I’ve never heard them referred to as porkers before. One website owner I noticed a few months back referred to them as “Wessex Pigs”, I suspect he’d mixed up the normal nickname and the “Wessex Electrics” publicity...One of the last BR EMU designs - and one of the best. My bad also, didn’t realise diagrams could relate to both rolling stock and crews (as you can tell I am no industry insider!)Yes company council have indeed supplied a list; work is progressing surprisingly well to resolve that and the door issues with the expectation a 10 car could be ready in 2-3 weeks.
My bad, should have been clearer when referring to ‘diagrams’ I was talking about rolling stock diagrams. The LTP train crew diagrams are indeed without 442s, the LTP rolling stock diagrams are with 442s and one or the other is then STP’d to match whether the 442s are running or not; thus there are no rolling stock diagrams without 442s but there are no traincrew diagrams with the 442s.... complex!
Additional train compared to last Sunday anyway. Will probably come into its own over the summer period as people start to realise it runs...Single 450 - positioning move really and a relief to the Weymouth train it overtakes at Eastleigh - a single 450 was more than sufficient

So there is no planned list of rolling stock to be used as cover for specific services and it will just be done on a ‘whatever is available’ basis?

74 miles each trip on the direct, maybe 8 per day, some diagrams will include a Bournemouth working, so up to about 600 miles maybe. Post #3241 by TEW has 6 of the eventual diagrams...bit of left field question, when the 442's finally start running in service, anybody have a view on how many miles a 442 set will rack up per day?
This is what you get by giving contracts to the cheapest bidder.
