Hi all, long time no speak!

I’m travelling up to Edinburgh from Kings Cross around 10am on the 18th August, returning at the same time on the 23rd. Right now there don’t seem to be any advances available. Have I missed them or are they not released yet?

If anyone knows when they should be released, that would be much appreciated!

Use thetrainline to setup an alert. Currently the window is until 16 August so you haven't missed them. Obviously don't buy your ticket from TTL.

Sign up for a Ticket Alert below to be first to know when you can get your hands on Advance train tickets for your journey. Advance train tickets tend to become available in the UK 12 weeks before the departure date, and booking one of these tickets could save you 51%* on average vs Anytime fares on the day.

To give you a hand, we've listed the current Advance ticket booking window for all UK train operators – and we can email you with an alert for specific routes and upcoming dates**.

Advance tickets are sold as singles. If your departure and return dates are different, you will receive two alerts.

** We attempt to detect when Advance tickets have been released each day by analysing the results of millions of users’ journey searches. Occasionally there may be dates or routes that haven’t yet been detected, or there may be interim dates when timetables and Advance tickets are yet to be confirmed by train operators. We’ll do our very best to alert you as soon as our systems detect availability.

Advances are currently available up to and including Friday 16th August. You can check this at the very bottom of the front page of the LNER website.

Tickets are usually released on a predictable week-by-week basis (on Fridays), with some exceptions (usually around Bank Holidays and where there is engineering work taking place).

You should see tickets for your journey become available next Friday, assuming that today's release has already occurred (which I think it has).

In any case, you can always subscribe to alerts which will notify you when tickets for any given journey/time are released.

I note that the OP's question is resolved, but in the case of LNER, it is far better to sign up to the operator's own ticket alert service at:

https://www.lner.co.uk/travel-information/early-bird-ticket-alerts/

The LNER system is linked to the actual release of tickets.

The Trainline one relies on guessing from a spike in bookings that Advances are likely to have been released. It's better than nothing when an operator doesn't have its own system, but when it does, the operator's one should always alert sooner and more reliably.

Didn't know that, useful information. Thanks.
