Looking on google earth, the former Northern General, Worswick Street bus station in Newcastle is still there, which i find quite amusing & also quite sad at the same time as it looks in a dreadful state, i think must be 1996 when buses last used Worswick Street, got me thinking, are there any other long abandoned bus stations which haven't been demolished & rebuilt?

Parkhouse Bus Station in Hatfield hasn't had a bus for several years.

Not that long-abandoned - if you move the Street View one step towards the bus station you see a photo of it in use with a modern bus alongside.

I don't see why you'd make a mess of it like that, though :(

Edit: oh, because they've built a new one.
yes. the old one was in the middle of Hexham. the new one is a long way away and most of the buses still stop by the old bus station.

here is the new one. Built on a park...

The former Lancashire United bus station in Leigh (including the former bus station office, now a taxi office) and also an ex-South Lancs Transport trolleybus traction pole!

Reading bus station has only recently been demolished having been unused and unloved for a long time- at least 20 years.

Part of Anderston Bus Station is still there although It's now in use as a car park.

Clydebank was used as a Bus Station at one point but is now nothing more than a glorified turning circle.

I think a few survive as car parks. Last I was there, Scarborough was still there - closed early 1990s. Think Clacton may also survive similarly.

Worcester Newport Street is also still there but not certain about Barker Street in Shrewsbury

Never knew about Newport St. That must have been fun when the river was up. I have seen that site under a lot of water.

How long has Lymington bus station been closed? Passed through a few weeks ago and noticed it was closed. it is still used to park up buses as the depot by the railway station is on the small side.

It was used as recently in 2012 during the closure of Station Hill, it even got a coat of white paint! IIRC, it was also the starting point for matchday shuttle buses to the Madejski Stadium.

The old bus station in Hanley is still standing too.
Not for much longer!! Demolition work started on the whole precinct back in January and should have been completed by now, was delayed due to some issues with gas supply. I’ve not been back for a few weeks so no idea how far they’ve got.

Yes, while the original stances haven't been used as anything more than a over-sized turning circle since at least the late 90s/early 2000s (ignoring periods of road closures/diversions), Clydebank Bus Station (the present stances are located on Chalmers St; between Alexander & Belmont Streets. The former stances/present turn-around area is situated between Belmont St & Argyll Rd) is still very much an active facility, despite service reductions over the past few years.

Granted, it's one that would benefit from a comprehensive redevelopment, but that's something, given current budgetry constraints, that is highly unlikely to happen anytime soon. Such a thing was apparently planned about a decade ago, or so t'was the rumour swirling around at the time. Hardly surprising that nothing came of it TBH.

Now redeveloped but Airdrie bus station closed c1992/3 but was still there ten years later with some Central Scottish signage that dated from the mid 1980s!

Here are two images of it dating from May 2002, around a decade after it was closed (images from the excellent Central SMT website).

Not exactly the most inviting of places, open or closed!

I remember the great fanfare surrounding the opening of Smiddles Lane bus station in Bradford, although I can't remember the exact year, sometime in the 1970s. Huge disappointment to find it was just an extended layby with a bus stop on an island although it did provide a new turning point for the then service 80 from Holme Wood to Bankfoot. Last time I drove past (April 2019) it was still a sad looking thing. Google maps has it up for sale in 2018 so will no doubt soon be the site of lots of flats or a collection of fast food takeaways.

Turning circles like that are a bit of a thing of the past, partly because deregulation and consolidation has meant a near end to turning buses around at arbitrary edge-of-local-authority points, and partly because you can just run round a loop in most cases instead and not have to pay for the land.

The bus exchange behind Chester Town Hall has sat there doing very little for about two years now.
