Won't they be needed for spares for the fleet?
They strip any spares they need first - but as 59CosG95 just pointed out they won’t need any traction gear. Cab windows will probably be useful, I think they’re probably pretty expensive. I doubt they’ll need all the seats...

According to RR and RTT the 5Q88 ran to Southampton Airport Parkway it's just the 9B88 that was cancelled...strange

No 442s at Fratton, and their haven't been for a couple of weeks, hopefully we'll get a couple of this week so training can continue.

5Q88 didn’t run, the train never left Bournemouth Depot. RR and RTT isn’t always correct- if you look the timings the supposed passing times are exactly as per the schedule throughout, in reality this rarely happens and you’d expect to see 1L or 1E etc. Both 5Q88 and 9B88 were cancelled this morning.

Should now be a set at Fratton, 5Q19 06+50 Bomo Depot to Fratton Depot ran this morning.

Can confirm there is now 442 at Fratton. I wouldn’t expect the turn tomorrow to be a pig either, as the driver that has the turn doesn’t sign 442 or Clapham.

An attempt is being made for the run tomorrow subject to the swaps for traincrew above etc.

May there be a 442 passenger run tomorrow from PMH to WAT then - since there is a 442 in Fratton now? (subject to train crew changes)
I’d have thought that’s highly unlikely, doesn’t a recent post by Matt Taylor suggest it’s there for training?

If any 442 runs tomorrow (still a big if) it’ll be on the 06.28 Parkway to Waterloo and 18.48 Waterloo to Poole.

Tomorrow’s 1B88 now cancelled... make of that what you will. NRE also showing it as binned.

But RTT now showing a 9B88 STP. Shouldn’t we still expect 1B88 to be cancelled every day as I suggested a few posts back?

To an extent, yes, but when it’s showing on NRE as cancelled with no other service activated it leads me to think there will be no train, the return Poole train also showing as cancelled

Just spotted a 442 travelling through the depot at Wimbledon (not sure which unit numbers, sorry) - any idea why this is running here? Training?

If they dispose of the remaining six, that would be a complete waste of stock with life still in them and doesn't make any sense at all, especially after seeing the great job Bournemouth has done to restore them to their former glory. Surely it would make sense for the rosco to let SWR have them and at least get something for their use instead of just rotting away in either Ely storage sidings or Eastleigh works. Is this the advantages of the "privatised" railway. While good usable stock rots in sidings, passengers have under go hard seats if they're lucky or stand on well overcrowded trains.

Whilst the leasing companies will let them be leased for a peppercorn rent the cost to overhaul is just too prohibitive for stock of that age especially now newer stock is coming off lease. Just remember the best 18 were chosen from the 24 and they are already sadly massively late.

The average age of a train is 30-40 years, think the line Pompey CIGs were withdrawn after 33 years (1972 to 2005). The PIGs are now 32 years old with 52 year old traction equipment. If the SWR franchise was coming up now with the stock available now its highly unlikely 442s would be chosen.

Then lease 2 of those 6 to SWR as a pair of Christmas trees for the 18, especially if spares for the older systems are going to be harder to find?
