Cool that's not too bad. I emailed them today to ask when my possible start date is, they said they will be in a meeting all day today sorting out everyone's start dates. so I'm guessing you guys that have done your medical will be getting your exact start dates anytime now.
That's good to hear. I've got my medical this week.

Hi pal, I’m just waiting for a medical date. Found out I passed my interview today. What background checks do they do? Do they go through all of that with you when you go in after your medical?

I think they check your employment references and check you haven’t any previous convictions.

Is anyone in the same boat as me as waiting to hear from recruitment. I emailed them a couple of weeks ago to see if there was any news. I was told I had passed the sift but they were waiting for more assessment days.

I think there's a couple people on here still waiting for assessments if you cant find anyone on this thread check the one titled Abellio. I think most people here are at the interview or medical stage. we have all put a load of info up to help you guys so just go through the threads or just direct your messages to any of the guys that have passed and they will help you.

Don't worry mate, I felt exactly the same. I didn't think I did well at all and kept thinking of much better things I could've said after. I had mine on a Friday and got my answer on the Monday. got my fingers crossed for you. also had a sleepless weekend anticipating the reply so I know what you're going through. you will be fine. stay hopeful
Turns out I passed the interview, absolutely over the moon. Waiting on my medical date now.

congrats to all who have passed their interviews. I have my stage 2 assessments this week for WMT. Feeling good about it all. Just a question I have... My HR at my current role have said they only give standard reference info i.e. start date, end date, job role and salary. Would this be a problem for the TOC when checking references as they said they don't disclose info about sickness and disciplinaries. Many thanks in advance for replies

congratulations mate well done, I know them nerves can play with your mind. I didn't doubt it for a second. we did all the hard parts so would be a bit mean to fail you at that stage. I had my medical app sent about 2 days later, so you can look forward to that now.

Cheers mate. Yer nerves got to me so was over analysing my performance in the interview.
How much notice did they give you for your medical appointment, probably going to need to book work off.
All getting quick exciting now isn’t it

Yh all seems a bit surreal. mine is booked for the 17th of this month, I had exactly 4 weeks notice. they sent a email asking me to confirm my DOB 2 days after my interview results. when I confirmed it was another 3days until my appointment came through from the medical team.
Have you heard anything about what the training is like, difficulty wise?

Well it will be challenging. That's why we're applying isn't it? :) I've had chats with drivers from the TOC I currently work at. Safety & traction training is usually a few weeks. Route learning takes months. There is an article about driver training I'll link below which gives a general breakdown of what is involved. Each TOC does it slightly differently of course.

Did most of you guys apply when recruitment was open last year, or are some of you form this years drive? I am still at stage one so a while to go yet.

I applied for Bletchley at the end of March this year. I had already completed the other stages with another TOC to enhanced level, so progressed straight to DMI and have medical on Thursday.

Yer did the confirmation for date of birth yesterday so should hear back with a medical date in next few days.
Training will be difficult but that’s expected, they were saying the training academy is moving to a new location soon so am guessing that will be in time for the new starters from this round of recruitment.

Just got an email through from WMT saying I am unsuccessful, hopefully others waiting who get nothing have got through. I never thrive in an interview environment and whatever changes or preparation I've done are not sufficient as that's my 2nd failure of the year (counting Freightliner too).

Sorry to hear this. You’ll get there, just got to keep your chin up and get feedback.

I've got my feedback, basically says I'm not very good and interviews and when under the pressure lost focus and talked bollocks.

It's depressingly accurate I think

Had to wait until today to find my out my results as I missed the call yesterday and wasn't free until lunch time today, bit of a nervous wait but it's all good and I passed.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that posted in this thread as it did help me out a lot.

As Stigy says you'll get there, my advice for next time is to get friends and family to give you mock interviews to get you used to the environment and stick to the STAR method when answering questions to avoid losing focus with what you are trying to say.

You can work on your interview technique as @LAC says. I’m not sure how many interviews you’ve had (in general not just railway), but you’ll naturally get better the more you do, and all unsuccessful ones are a learning curve (that’s the way I look at it anyway). I’ve had so many in recent years I actually quite enjoy the challenge now

Really sorry to hear this dude.

I would apply for other jobs you don’t want, even if it’s tesco etc, do the interviews. You can’t beat experience and the confidence it’ll bring when they want you.

I would also watch lots of videos on YouTube regarding interview scenarios and techniques. You’ll get there, you know what to expect, the other thing is you have to keep calm no matter what, it’s only a chat with two strangers.

Good luck...keep on going

Seems to be a large number of people getting through to medicals at the moment. Are there any current WMT drivers or employees here who can shed light on this influx? Is it down to retirees or expansion of services (I hear cross city may be going 24hrs)

Thanks

Mainly expansion of services with the new timetable changes.
