Hi guys

Recently applied for an off track operative role with network rail. Still waiting to hear back, but is anybody able to elaborate on what the role generally entails? Read a few threads but didnt get much from them. Also anybody know what kinda shift pattern/rota they work on?

My current role.

Bulk of the work is fence repairs, vegetation management and draining maintenance and inspection.

We work mostly days and get a 13 week roster, couple of weeks of nights thrown in usually and a couple of weekends.

It'd be anything but pway work!

Not really. It won't be p-way work but it won't be signalling, overheads, telecoms, lubrication, welding, grinding, distribution and power, or any of the other myriad of things that go on on the railway but don't fall under p-way or off track's remit either!

Off track do fences, vegetation, drainage (although some places split into drainage and general teams), and I believe they also look after level crossing surfaces but I may be wrong there.
