I love the lighting on the pendolinos, as well as the EMT 222's.

I also quite like the lighting on the 222's (and them generally) but I still prefer the EMT HST. It would be nice if they used the dimmer switch more !

I'd quite like travelling at night with all the lights off. Properly enjoy the view out the window.

In the days of Mk2 and Mk3 stock on the WCML I used to actively seek out coaches with broken lights for that purpose. Staff mostly wouldn't bother moving you out, or if they did they'd ask once and if ignored give up.

Anything where lack of basic thought means customers get poorer service than could easily be provided.

For example, I’m currently on a Carnforth to Carlisle train and it’s 2 x refurbished 156 and there are working info screens in the carriages that list calling points. Some have (X) after them which I know indicates a request stop, but the screen doesn’t explain it, so passengers unfamiliar with railway parlance could get caught out.

Oh, and the automated voice on the Northern station announcements that doesn’t pronounce some station names properly

excessively bright internal lighting. Especially when travelling at night.
Why are trains lights on when its sunny outside? I remember 1st gen DMU travelling with the lights off. driver put em on when we approached a tunnel. then turned them off again.

How about plugging in your phone to charge it, only to find that the battery charge has decreased by the time you get to your destination

They do that on heritage railways and it works perfectly fine. However, Mr. Health and Mr. Safety (:)) would be up in arms about it. It would probably violate so many different laws.

I remember when I was on a regional train in Belgium or France (can't remember) the lights were off as it was bright and we entered a fairly long tunnel, at least a good 40 seconds and for half of it we were in pitch black as the driver/guard didn't turn on the lights, it was fairly surreal as that would never be tolerayed in the UK but nobody seed to care, they didn't notice looking at their phone screens.

I've been through tunnels twice on service trains in the UK with the lights off. Once fairly recently.

(Ore tunnel and Thackley new tunnel).

There was a whodunnit book where someone was murdered while a train went through a tunnel with no lights. Went in with 6 people in a compartment, came out with 5 and a cadaver with a knife in his chest. Think an agatha christie.

The new Information screens on 158s that I always bang my head on. There’s no reason why they couldn’t be mounted a little higher

Unfortunately too many double standards. If they do it to the nearest man it's just a laugh but I am sure if someone did it back to them they would file a court case against them. I wish we would all respect the same rules and not pick and choose when we obey them.

The double standards seem to extends to these boards! My post about the conduct of hen parties was deleted under "Reason: 16 - Bigotry or discrimination".

Plenty of posts on here about the conduct of men on trains but criticising women is a step too far it seems!

Imagine barrelling along at 125 mph at night. Lights off, windows open, carriage rocking a bit from side to side. Thwak! You're into a long tunnel. All the noise the speed the wind in your face the energy going on all in pitch darkness.

Where else could you get an experience like that? Maybe I'm crazy but I'd love it.

The toilet doors (not the disabled ones) on the 379s. The door is too close to bowl

A friend who travelled from Newcastle to Manchester Piccadilly on TPE yesterday afternoon suggested I put this "on your website"... It was a service terminating at Manchester Airport, totally rammed 4-coaches, some people standing all or most of the way, and being an airport destination everyone had luggage, yet there was next to no facility for stowing luggage. My friends arrived totally frazzled, even though they were lucky in that they had seat reservations, and struggled to get out at Piccadilly against the further hordes pushing their way onto an already packed coach.

Not sure if this is just a Sunday problem, but it certainly needs addressing if it's a regular occurrence.
