I won't be taking this further, but just updating for people's awareness.

16 May 2019 - delayed SWR train from Cranbrook caused me at Exeter St David's to miss 10.50 XC service to Cheltenham for onward to Nottingham. It was a tight but valid connection - 8 mins vs minimum 6. The 10.50 was missed, the 11.24 taken. Thanks greatly to Exeter St David's duty station manager for typing a letter asking for my advance ticket to be accepted, which was no issue. I arrived just over 30 minutes late. Put in Delay Repay and bizarrely told it was 15-29 minutes. Appealed with clear information and rejected. No-one knows the journey better than the person who did it and this is frankly insulting. They said it was based on information available to them, but that clearly didn't include the most important information of all - the customer's account. Very frustrating. No point taking it further.

There is absolutely every point in taking it further.

I can't see trains that give that connection time at Cheltenham. The 10:50 from Exeter was scheduled to arrive at 12:39, with a departure to Nottingham at 12:58. Having missed the 10:50 you travelled on the 11:24 and the appropriate change for Nottingham was then at Birmingham New Street on to the 14:19 departure arriving in Nottingham at 15:28. This was 25 minutes later than your original itinerary, so no Delay Repay would be due.

I read it as the 8 mins connection was at Exeter St David’s?

Given that the OP was actually there, I am not sure what relatime trains or any other open data site might add...

I suppose the crux if the matter is, what did the Exeter St Davids Duty Station Manager actually advise? It may not have been this.

I agree, but the next Nottingham train from Cheltenham arrived in Nottingham at 16:06, giving a delay of over an hour. I don't think we really know the answer to this without more information from the OP.
