Does anybody know the loco/s that UK Rail Tours will be using for their ‘Crewe Open Day or Medieval Chester’ tour? Thanks

Exact numbers or class? Should be two LSL 47's, not sure about which ones though.

Apologies if I got in the way of anyone’s picture! What a busy afternoon, well worth it. Anyone take the Routemaster over to the heritage centre?

Yes I did. Nice touch for it to be free and hope it paid its way many times over.
To be honest far better value at the heritage centre than the open day.
And it was dryer!

The way some people yelled at those even remotely in the way today was appalling. I don't know if anyone on here was witness to that (and hopefully not the perpetrators).

I was also one of the ones unfortunately getting in the way.

I also witnessed someone having a a go at someone else for being in the way.

Ridiculous. Several thousand people in a confined area on a rainy day and you expect a clear shot!

Yes. As well as annoying a few people on the APT with the buzzer.... umm not me!

One of the very few disappointments of a fantastic day. I witnessed a few occasions where people (all of a certain generation I may add) were extremely rude towards other people because they happened to walk into the person's shot. In the train sheds where people are walking bi-directionally down one aisle, there is little chance of a clear shot of a loco that is on top of you anyway - unless of course these people think that the walkways should be stopped while they get their perfect shot.

Other than that it was a really good day. My first experience of an open day and I was unsure about what to expect but there were great variations of rolling stock and plenty of access for people to see everything. The thrash competition between the 68 and 57 at the end was nice to see and hear (the 50 seemed to lag a long way behind).

Happy I decided (eventually) to go and thanks to @Phil Scott for sorting me out with a ticket - nice to meet you albeit briefly and hope you enjoyed it as well!

Running very late this morning... held up for nearly an hour at Willesden West Junction... looking good if very wet through Cheddington though

That's apparently because 47 501 on the front of it broke down moments after leaving Euston; they had to loop it to run 47 810 round from the back.

I didn't see any of this going on, although I am afraid I have to apologise if the person who accidentally bumped into my wife and got an earful off her, including a couple of four letter words, for pushing past is on here... She was going on about her visually impaired persons badge ( "Look! See this! What does it say?!!!" ) even though the person bumped into her from behind and couldn't possibly have seen it...

I think it works both ways - there are some people who are impatient and shout at others, when often a polite 'excuse me', or waiting a couple of minutes, will suffice. On the other hand, there are those who seem totally unaware of their surroundings and do not spot that they are the one person who is in the way of 10 people trying to get a shot. A bit more tolerance on both sides is probably needed!

The number of exhibits the organisers had managed to bring to the event was amazing - although some were pretty difficult, if not impossible, to photograph reasonably (and remember, that is the reason why a lot of people attend). Those that were, could be got with a little patience, particularly towards the end of the day when things quietened down.

Probably my only real criticism (other than the weather, I can't hold the organisers responsible for that!) was the sales stands in the main shed. There wasn't enough space to walk past when people were stopped at the stall, and I have to say I didn't really feel comfortable browing in such a confined space, so I didn't spend as much time at those stands as I normally would.

Very well said. The positioning of some stalls was very bad. You could only fit 2 people at a squeeze past the loco. How are you meant to photograph that?

I think the weather made things worse; if it had been dry people would have stayed outside longer, reducing the congestion inside.
I agree that the siting of stalls was not great.
I do wonder if a one-way system (like over the footbridge in the workshop) would have helped but it would have been a nightmare to police.
I do agree that people need to buy cameras that focus quicker.

But a great day and am looking forward to the next one.

Hopefully there will be more space at Kingmoor in July. I'm looking forward to that.

Thanks for confirming - I did wonder as much from the movements on open train times... looked like that was what was going on

I didnt know there was one ( free bus)...obviously it could have been publicised better.
I did enjoy the few hours I was there. Did think of going to Heritage centre ,always another day.
Sods law means the weather is dry at Crewe today looking at cameras.Yes the rain was not wanted; spare a thought with those who planned any outside event yesterday in the area including a friend of a friend, who went to a wedding in our lovely British summer !
Did everthing turn up as planned in the list afew posts (#55) ago ?

I believe it did, although the Pendolino wasn't at the event itself, it was in the station (platform 12?) for the naming ceremony to 'Crewe - All Change'.

Overall it was a fantastic day, despite the weather, and I'm pleased with the pictures I got. With large events like these you have to expect people to be in your shots and if you want a clear shot, you're going have to be patient and polite. I did notice a few people shouting at others to move out of the way, but nothing overly aggressive.

Everything but the 90 was all as planned. Was 90045 not 044 but oh well. Got a few extra steamers and 47s that are for scrap. All in all a good day.

I’m in agreement with the tight squeezing at the stalls, but an excellent day all round. It was great to pop over to the heritage centre too - the reclining seats in the APT were reason enough not to mothball what would have been a fantastic piece of engineering. I got chatting to a someone who reckoned we need an Elon Musk type figure to get the whole thing up and running again. If money were no object!

I didn't witness any shouting but a fair amount of muttering and to be fair, one photographer did step forward to assist an elderly gent who was struggling to cross the rails in the yard.

The only thing I thought was particularly missing was a plan of where everything was, including the stallholders who were split over two buildings.
