Evening,

How long do SWR give you to relocate for a position?

I've been offered a guard role elsewhere to where I applied.
Cheers.

I wasn’t aware they allowed you to, but I assume you’d need to be relocated by the time you’re at your designated depot? (As everyone’s classroom training is at Basingstoke I assume that wouldn’t count).

You can also transfer to 'another' grade and location after 6 months probation from passing out.

Hi pal,

Thanks for that info - I may well consider doing that then.

I was worried they'd only give you a few months and then you'd get the chop if you hadn't.

All the best.

It's 3 years from passing out fully competent I believe.
Well just called up and they said you'd have to have moved on day you start at the ROC.

incredibly bizzare that they don't give you any breathing room to be able to find somewhere suitable especially as it will be the training wage.

Hey ho will stick with where I originally applied!

I had to relocate before starting as a driver, basically as long I was moved in on the start date it was fine, if I’m honest it wasn’t even checked, but I had relocated anyway.

In regards to this, I rushed and found any old place, as like you say, on a training wage, living in central London isnt easy, and it’s turned out to be a nightmare. One of those things you just have to suffer with for a while it seems!

It may be worth considering hanging on for a (possibly short) while until a vacancy arises local to you.

Got my start date today!!
Don't know if coincidence with ringing up, but very happy.

All the best.

Just to confirm are you over a 45 minute journey from your allocated place of work? It do you mean how long you have to wait until you can apply for for a transfer?

I am yes, but I will be moving to where the place of work is...

Okay, if that's the case you will need to relocate before you go 'live' as a guard at your place of work. The company will probably take a dim view if you didn't and if you were to have an incident where fatigue is a factor it could open you up to all sorts of problems.
