I wasn't aware the class 700s were cleared for access to London Victoria?
As the photo show 700 053 was sat in platform 6 out of service at Victoria around 4pm any ideas

Well, there are two possibilities - either it was cleared all along, or something went very, very wrong and the rules were bent (or perhaps this is a visit to clear it?).

They have been cleared for ages, IIRC.
That's great if you have an encyclopedic knowledge of old posts and old topics, as someone who uses Victoria semi regularly I've never seen one sat in Victoria, but as you mention short notice diversions and route knowledge training from the Gillingham depot it seems when I took a look at RTT makes sense.
Cheers

I just also remembered that while routes were being transferred from Southern to Thameslink there were transitional stages where the stock had to be used into Victoria. I think it might have been back in 2016 they were first cleared? My post wasn’t meant to be criticism, just pointing out that it had been going on quite a while.

There was a major problem with clearance and they were prohibited from going into Vic. Then they were restricted to specific platforms, now they are cleared for passenger service. They are only cleared for Kent side.

There are still quite a few route restrictions.

Is that simply because the other side hasn't been "done" or is there something that really means they cannot got there?
The public version of the sectional appendix I have, (downloaded in 2018), had them cleared for all the platforms at Victoria. There are separate entries in the table for the two sides; Kent 1-8, and Sussex 9-19...

There are different types of 'clearance'.

They have 'route availability' for the Bexleyheath but they are not allowed to stop at certain platforms because they are not 'cleared'

I remember seeing them running in/out of Victoria on the weekends during engineering works earlier this year / late last year also.

Near a bunch of sheds that aren't 66s.
The Sevenoaks service occasionally diverts into London Victoria whenever London Blackfriars is closed for whatever reason. These really are universal units and it's amazing the amount of places they're cleared to go to.

Correct -the definitive document is the "Kent / Sussex / Wessex Routes Sectional Appendix Module KSWRC - Table D2B – Route clearance of electric multiple units" which shows that Class 700s are cleared into London Victoria.

The same document that states that 700s are NOT cleared :
Rochester Bridge Jn - Gillingham
London Bridge Platforms 1-9 - North Kent East Jn
Dartford Jn - Hoo Jn
Hoo Jn - Strood Jn
Strood Jn - Rochester Bridge Jn

The definitive document is : NRSC/0700/043/s
