Don't forget that it's not just the Angel HSTs that need to go, the rest of the fleet needs modification or replacement.

Yes, DfT asked EMT to start a procurement to do a limited set of upgrades on the 2+8 HST fleet
(see https://www.railmagazine.com/news/network/accessibility-modifications-planned-for-midland-hsts)

However, given the glacial pace of change in this industry, I'd be astonished if the entire fleet had these interventions complete by the end of the year.

I don't see how it will be possible to achieve that without cancellations if the 180s are not introduced.

My favourite theory is that they'll juggle timetables and diagrams and this will free up an HST to be withdrawn, most likely one of the 2+6 ex-GC trains. Therefore meeting the letter of the "from May 2020" commitment, if not the spirit off it.

Or am I being excessively cynical?

This has probably been covered elsewhere in the thread, but why can’t they introduce some of the retired HSTs from GWR/LNER? May not be PRM compliant but good enough as a stop gap?

Quite simply because there is little to no point in replacing one set of non-PRM compliant HSTs with another equally uncompliant set. The proposal to use LNER sets is because they are marginally closer to the PRM requirements and presumably either do not or can be more easily be modified to stop dumping excrement onto the tracks.

One Mark 3 is much like any other for adding toilet tanks. You can only fit them at one end: the brake module is in the way at the other end.

What did Greater Anglia do with the toilets that couldn't be fitted with a CET tank? Is it possible to take out the toilet and put in luggage racks instead?

I've seen those barriers but thought I use the A route last night - ended up doing a loop because I wasn't sure exactly which bus stop to get off at and Google Maps was as much use as a chocolate fireguard!

Eg which bus stop do I need arriving at Parkway?

It's the stop directly opposite the Hampton Hilton hotel (and station entrance/exit) if travelling from Luton, and just past the hotel if arriving from the Airport. When I'm back at work I will attempt to contact Google and get them to recognise the other entrance to Parkway station as this is a casing point that people might be discouraged from using our service as a connection!

Think it has the WiFi kit and inverters for the sockets in it now.

Appreciate that because the other issue I had with Google was them telling me the next bus was half hour later disregarding the fact that the bus was right there at the stop and about to depart

So I just need to get off at the hotel coming from Luton and I should be able to see the station?

A side note, the front of the airport looks a world apart from when I was last there with a brand new bus station (what was wrong with the old one?) and a ruddy great big multi story car park on top of the verge where you could watch the aircraft.

I think even the area to to the side of the terminal where you could see what was on the apron has been lost too!

Anyway I hope that Abellio introduce the ability to double back between the two Luton stations for connectivity or introduce a Luton stations as a destination so you can use either station which I think makes far more sense but they won't bother.

To steer this back to the franchise...
it would appear Abellio are very keen to brand things from the get go.
Stagecoach simply applied gaffer tape to logos on their changeover day from MML, but Abellio will provide branded stickers or complete replacements.

There is also a strong rumour/suggestion they will open 17 ticket offices. Not sure if most of these will be on the Barton line?

After the Director is announced, the brand/logos will be revealed.
Interesting that an "Alan Pilbeam" was recently appointed director from West Midlands Trains.

I guess this is them: https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/09860485

With just a couple of months to go, I think they will be a lot of news in a short space of time.

Perhaps take with a pinch of salt, but this is doing the rounds

Is that purple? Surely should have gone for crimson!

Not sure about the "regional" and "electric" sub brands. Seem rather 1980s and 1930s.

That's, er, different. I assume they're going for a GWR-style modern classic, but to me it just looks a bit dated and oddly Americanised.

Is the top one a badly drawn 222 or does it give some indication as to what might be ordered?

The bottom one is definitely a Class 360, albeit with somewhat Electrostar-like inner ends. The middle one a bodged 170 with an extra cab door where there isn't a cab.

I have to agree, the electric made me laugh a bit. Reminds me of some sort of retro-futuristic film or video game...

EMR in bright pink, bold comic sans would have sufficed perfectly fine!

Probably isn’t the final livery, maybe a mock up, might look completely different on an actual train!

We were assured that was the intended livery, but in the short term vinyl EMR initials will appear to cover existing names. I hope it looks better on trains than on the slide! I find the current livery one of the brightest on our tracks and the new a dull substitute.
