Since the new May timetable, there is now three 08:34 departures from Guildford. These are to:
  • Waterloo via Cobham
  • Waterloo via Woking
  • Portsmouth Harbour
Can anyone match or beat that with other examples?

London Bridge, numerous triples and a few fours so far, eg 1039, 1051 and 1105. Haven’t checked the whole day.
At 1105:
P8 Charing Cross SE
P5 Bedford TL
P6 Dartford SE
P4 Brighton TL

PS just found a group of six at 0821. I suggest London Bridge might be a winner...

Liverpool St has 00 and 30 departures to Enfield, Norwich and Shenfield. 11.00 yesterday saw all three heading up the hill to Bethnal Green side by side.

Clapham Jn might be another, but I can't get above 5 in either peak.

At 0831 at London St Pancras there is a train to Shefield, Cambridge, and Paris Nord, probably the biggest difference if you got on the wrong 0831, Leicester, Finsbury Park or Paris!

That does indeed look like it could be a winner.

Just imagine if security checks were not needed.

Manchester Piccadilly had (before the May 18 TT change) xx46 departures to Glossop, Stoke and Crewe (via Man Airport). If the signalling & dispatch god's aligned you'd see the sight of 3 323s snaking out of Piccadilly station throat at the same time.

Eight if you include Jubilee Line to Stratford and Northern Line to Morden.

An interesting sub-challenge would be to find examples of four or more simultaneous departures outside London - e.g. there are four departures from Reading M-F at 08.34, two to Paddington and one each to Bedwyn and Didcot.

I have found 2 examples of 3 simultaneous departures from Bromley South (1734 & 18:03). Obviously doesn't set the record, but notable for this being just a 4-platform station. I won't keep looking for a 4-departure minute, but I wonder if there are stations of similar size which see so many trains leave together?

Haymarket has points where there are 3 simultaneous departures (4 platforms with a bay - that bay isn't used for passenger services regularly).

17:47 sees 4 departures to Tweedbank, Inverness, Edinburgh Waverley and Ayr (P1-4 respectively). That's 80% of platforms, or 100% of the line capacity.

In the last timetable, I noticed that there were 6 trains departing Clapham Junction at 08:28, but in the new timetable this has reduced to 5 (to London Bridge; Victoria; Waterloo (x 2) and Reading)

I would have thought Waterloo would be in with a good chance then with the extra tube lines
Is that just referred to as Waterloo by TfL? I know it's pedantic but there is a Waterloo East as well as London Waterloo

Putting 'Waterloo Underground Station' into the 'next departures' search on the Traveline South East website leads to departures from London Waterloo also being shown (like putting 'London Bridge Underground Station' also showed national rail results). It shows 8 departures at 17:05 tomorrow. Two National Rail and 6 Underground.

I'm wondering about a station such as Preston or Lancaster or Blackburn, where services could leave at the same time from different directions...

I usually beat them to almost Bethnal Green when the DM is reduced to 35 just as the DE goes to 40/50. As it stops, the one on the DS loses every time.

Like Clapham Junction and London Bridge already. Different directions alone probably isn’t going to lift those NW stations very high up the list. A quick check of RTT shows some double departures, but none at all for Blackburn...

Probably not timed officially to do so, but I’ve certainly departed from Manchester Picc at the same time as another 3 have been leaving the station. Happened a few times. One on the Easterns, me on the Fast, one on the slows and one heading for the down goods.

Piccadilly has one in the afternoon:

16:35 Northern to Rose Hill Marple, platform 3
16:35 Virgin to London Euston, platform 7
16:35 TransPennine to Newcastle, platform 14
