Why can GA make an agreement with new train but SWR cant with the 444s...would have through the RMT would want to strike at GA because DCO removes the 'safty' aspect but seems not seems as if new trains are ok but current ones aren't. Logic=none (Nothing personal against you BTW just a general comment)
RMT have already had strike action at GA. It was sorted last year after guarantees that a second person would be retained until at least the end of the franchise.

It lasted for eight months. Managers where flown down & hotels booked even on Boxing Day night 2017 from Scotrail amongst others to become PUGs & therefore retain a service. Was horrendously expensive. Amazed you didn't get to hear of the guards fight this end.

Yes most likely. At the time I think Southern & Northern where the franchises most talked about. Scotrail appeared to agree things very quickly. All in all ten full working days where lost here to strikes along with months of working to rule. It turned very nasty with all overtime forbidden & PUGs used on an almost daily basis instead.

WOW what are PUBs may I ask sounds like areal mess you had to put up with...only if they would stop worring about DOO and just work a service for passeneger rather than making trouble for passengers.

PUGs (Person Utilised as Guard) was I think the correct title. Wasn't very popular with us drivers but as not in dispute we had no choice but to work as normal although most refused to work free days on the designated guards strike days as a matter of principal.

153, 156 & 170 along with 90/DVT sets all about to be replaced by the Stadler 745/755s. Still not sure whether we will have anything to do with the Bombardier 720 fleet. One day we will the next we won't. Usual railway confudlement.

What will they use if there are not enough 745s to fulfil the Norwich to London service if not 720s?

Another question nobody will answer  I'm guessing it will just be 720s on selected diagrams worked by Liverpool St crews as now happens with 321s. Won't be an issue on the Airport route as drivers (no guards needed) will sign both anyway.

Still remember the guys coming through the train saying they are there to sell tickets and refusing to do anything else, such as check tickets and help customers!

Not many PUGs sold tickets. Only the Conductor Managers took a machine out. The rest where just there to dispatch & do disabled etc

Is there a DMU shortage at the moment, as the 1935 Norwich to Cambridge this evening was formed as a single 153 (I can't imagine that would be fun on a Saturday night), and the 1955 Norwich to Sheringham used an EMT 158?
Very much so. 156418 suffered severe damage after an argument with a tree this week & the 37s failed yesterday afternoon to add to the woes. There has been a 153v170 all day yesterday & Friday on a Cambridge diagram (one losing 20mins due to overcrowding) & one Saturday diagram was cancelled all day. 158863 was used for the 19:55 Sheringham & a later trip to the coast.

Apart from some diagrams operating as 153v156 it's not looking too bad at start of service. Saying that as yesterday some scuds do venture onto the Sheringham line in the course of these diagrams which can always be busy but the gala weekend at the North Norfolk Railway isn't helping. 37s don't come out to play on Sundays as it's their booked (& much needed) maintenance day at Crown Point.

I must have got lucky with the 37s as I had one last short set trip yesterday on the 13:57 to Great Yarmouth and the 14:47 return. I believe they did the 15:50 Lowestoft after that.

Depending how seriously damaged that 156 is, it could be almost reaching the time that it won’t be seen running in Anglia again.

The FLIRTS cant come soon enough.
You could have written that 10 years ago. For as long as I can remember there has been a shortage of DMUs at Norwich. For example ATW 150280 worked out of Nowrich for months back in 2012.

Looks like the sensible decision to replace the entire Felixstowe timetable with buses tomorrow has been taken with ALL East Suffolk services calling at Westerfield in lieu.

Hearing the 37's have been extended for another couple of months to cover for unit issues.

The GA website mentions that two units are out at present due to one hitting a tree and another due to vandalism. Certainly things beyond their control when these sort of incidents impact a fleet size with very little to spare at the best of times.

There's more than two out, hence why GA used the word including.

The engineering work on the East Suffolk has been a blessing today & dampened demand enough to allow 153s to just about cope on the Woodbridge terminators. The Sheringham line with its gala weekend has been a different story. The poor weather has also helped.
