Does anyone have an idea as to how many people get through to the DMI?

Supposedly 500 people sat the Stage 1 testing, but I can't imagine they will interview anywhere near that number - interviewing is a lot more staff-intensive than supervising rooms full of test subjects! :D

When I did the DM interview, I found it a lot less stressful than I was expecting.

Yes, it’s all structured, and the DM’s won’t give anything away about what they think of your answers, but they will try any make you as comfortable as they can.
Just keep to the STAR format as much as possible with your answers. This will help you keep your answers detailed and concise. :)

Good luck! :D

Hi Dynamonic,

Can I ask what kind of questions you had, if you remember.

Is it along the lines of “can you give us an example of a time you completed a task along side policy and procedure?!”

The interviews are competency based but I can’t find the competencies they assess against anywhere!! Any help greatly appreciated!

They’ll interview enough to be able to bin the weaker candidates!! And that’s enough to worry me.

Interviews have always been my weakness!

Hi there GandalfsStaff,

They’re the sort of questions to be prepared for, yeah.

Train Drivers are expected to be able to demonstrate a skillset called ‘Non-Technical Skills’ as part of their role, and you are assessed for these skills throughout both recruitment AND your career once you're in. :)

From what I hear recruitment is slowing up for Notts and Derby with the change of franchise etc and accademy being blocked up with Northamptonshire trainees at times next year. People passing DMIs now could be looking at 2021 start dates at this rate.

After what seems like for ages ive been e mailed a date for the group interview stage on the 18th July at Customer Service Academy in Derby. Im led to believe the half day consists of group exercises such as building a paper tower etc. Im also told that you complete a series of speed interviews ????? Any ideas on what subjects are covered in these interviews and possible format..... I take it on this day there are no proper interviews as such using the STAR system and that will hopefully come at the next stage.
Appreciate any feedback or help, thanks.......

Good evening,

I went for my DMI on the 3rd May for the depot driver role, was told at the interview I would hear back within 2 weeks. I’m still waiting for a reply back. I emailed last week with no response. Is this because of the recent trainee driver roles being posted? Not sure if anyone else is in the same situation.

Thanks everyone, Nathan

Hi Nathan,

Railway recruitment can often be slow going, and requires a lot of patience. I understand it can be hard waiting for results to come through, but I’m sure you’ll find out in good time. :)
The delay may very well be linked to the other trainee driver campaign going on like you say, as that has a more urgent need of getting new drivers ready for the new depot, whereas I’m aware there’s still people lined up in the Talent Pool waiting for the next few Depot Driver courses.

Hope you get some good news soon. :)

Once on the talent pool are you able to be considered at all the diver depots? For instance if you originally applied to the Nottingham and derby depot roles, are you able to ask to be considered for the planned Northamptonshire depot? Or are you only allowed to be considered for where you initially applied to?

@nathan211 had my interview on may 10th. I’m still waiting to.

Hi Nathan, I had my interview last week, I was hoping to have a response this week, but now having read how long you've been waiting, perhaps I should expect a longer wait.

Great to hear you’re starting to get some news! :)

Congratulations to those of you who have passed, but don’t worry if you didn’t. Your chance will roll around again. :)

@Justy that makes sense. I have the relevant GCSE qualifications at c and above anyway so hopefully that will be enough?
@Diesel08 jts all collective data questions there are graphs and and data and the answers are all in front of you. The hard part is working out which is the right one.

Got to stop stressing about this process and getting worked up. I’m putting the effort in as I’m sure we all are around all other commitments and responsiblitys. I want this job as much as anybody I can guarantee that, but I need to keep in mind that worrying about it will solve nothing.

Good luck to everyone on Monday am and pm and everyone else at some stage of the process for that matter.

See you there on Monday morning I’l be the bloke hobbling around (latest football injury)
Hopefully the group assessment is t a bloody baton race!!
How long was test? time wise, is it something you log in from home onto a online link to do this?

Would anyone happen to know if there is car parking available at the training academy in Derby or does it work on a pay and display system? Thanks.
