Excuse me for being obtuse, but are the Class 313s listed in post #142 no longer existent and have been scrapped? Thanks.

-Peter

According to my records 23-26-31-50-55 have been taken to scrapyards.

All others noted are, again according to my records, stood down from service awaiting their final journey to Rotherham / Kingsbury / Newport.

Move scrap move(s) planned for the coming week according to posts over the last couple of days.

As of the now, five GN 313s have been sent for scrap - 313026,31,50,55,123. The remainder are either in service or stored around the GN network.

Looks like some more will be added to the scrapped list in the coming week, sadly.

Thank you both.

The ones stabled in Hertford Up Carriage Sidings, are they withdrawn units just awaiting a trip to the scrapyard?

No idea what units tho but did see as always, they got vandalised.

GN Twitter have just posted a pic of them being dragged through Finsbury Park. 027 and another unit.

Sounds like the second trip to the scrap yard tonight/tomorrow is off. As the loco journey from Leicester to Hornsey has been cancelled throughout by 'the customer'

Here's Monday's scrap movement at Reading, with both unit numbers clearly visible.

Anyone know if Great Northern are going to do anything to give the last 313 a bit of a send off?!

I'd imagine they'll just get the standard railtour and maybe a plaque on the very last service - that's all GTR gave their cousins, the Class 319s, when they were all withdrawn from Thameslink a couple of years ago.

whats going to happen with the the one in br blue and grey, preserved? used for railtours ect?
I'm pretty certain that the NRM are having it and if they go ahead with their re-shuffle of exhibits and the 313 (313201) is unlucky it will be put at the back of the building and won't run again. Like one of the Deltics.

Still in service with Southern and will remain so for at least the next few years.. it's only the GN units being scrapped.

If they could just save 059 until I can get back into London again in July, I would be really grateful

Are there any pictures of the 313s being scrapped?

Photos of units being scrapped at Newport don’t seem to have been forthcoming in the past. Having said that, the site looks at least partly visible from public roads (Google have been there!). Large numbers of Southern units and 312s were scrapped there last decade with few if any photos - there’s a few pics of a couple SWT VEP vehicles in the yard with some underframes lying around, but that’s all. I suspect units possibly don’t linger long there, which may also be a factor in the lack of photos. By comparison Booth’s seem to take their time, and AIUI do allow people to visit the site on Saturday mornings.

I’m meant to be on holiday in west Wales now but it keeps being put back thanks to the current dire weather. If I do actually go I’ll probably drive via the M4 which passes through Newport, so I might be tempted to take a slight detour if there’s a possibility of seeing something. It’s not ideal that the security hut seems to be right by the vantage point from the road, but hopefully they’re amenable.

It’s really sad to see these units go in all honesty. Whilst I’ve not really used them a massive amount with the exception of using them daily for a couple of years in the 1990s, they’re something I’ve seen rattling around pretty much daily since my very early years, either when travelling by train, or often when walking or driving locally. They have served the area well, unglamorous they may have been, but good workhorses that have done their job well.

When's the last 313s running?
There's 12 pairs still in traffic on weekdays along with nine 717s. Assuming the 717s turn up at the rate of one per week then somewhere around September 13th. Some weeks they have added two diagrams so if that happends in the future the end date could move forward a few weeks.
