The GA website mentions that two units are out at present due to one hitting a tree and another due to vandalism. Certainly things beyond their control when these sort of incidents impact a fleet size with very little to spare at the best of times.
Is the fleet size beyond their control or do they share control?

The eternal problem with the current GA fleet is there is no breathing space. As soon as you loose a few units then the cancellations start coming

On the plus side there seemed to be far less short forms on the Norwich to London this week than when I last travelled a few weeks ago.

I heard today from someone that 3 317 units have been returned to the leasing company already?!

Yes 3 317s have gone. According to the latest brief the 170s go next followed by NC37 the short hailed.

The fact they are returning emu stock way before any are close to replacing it says a summer of discontent and short forms might be name of the game.

The 1107 Lowestoft to Ipswich was a153. Standing by Saxmundham and full by Woodbridge. One lonely passenger squeezed on at Westerfield. Didn't help passengers in middle of carriage wouldn't squash up. Funny listening to the train straining under the load pulling away!
Think previous service was canceled.

Near a bunch of sheds that aren't 66s.

Any dates for this, as I still would like to do the 37 but am alarmed that trains are going before their replacements have even entered service? They may get away with 3x317 being withdrawn but this decision would backfire quickly in the event that the already stretched regional fleet is withdrawn without replacement. Given a number are out of service and the Felixstowe branch has been suspended all day as a result of this.

Last summer was a disgrace in relation to the amount of short forms over West Anglia EMU, East Anglia EMU, DMU and Loco hauled fleets. There was not far of 100 a day showing on JourneyCheck at one point and it was more common that my train was short formed than fully formed at peak time.

The fact that they're struggling for DMUs today to the point where lines are being totally replaced by buses and a one car 153 replacing a 3 car 170 and they are returning stock off least WAY before their replacements are ready doesn't give me much confidence this summer will be any better.

Nothing much will happen for a couple of months (or more) on the locals side of things & NC37 should be plying it's trade for a good while yet. As ever though these things are fluid & dependant on acceptance of 755s into public service. Will keep this thread going & healthy if nothing else :p

722 is definitely gone but I can't speak for the others.
I reckon the others are 663 and 669. I'm pretty sure that 669 hasn't worked this year. A lot of the 317/6 are coming up to eight years since their last body overhaul. I don't know what is the maximum number of years between overhauls.

Norwich to Yarmouth hit by cancellations this morning and at least two intercity rakes short.

One set's services have been cancelled and the other one replaced by 321s

EMU situation is not much better, with some 12 car formations including the 7.16 from Harwich, being reduced to 4 cars with the 7.58 being reduced from 8 to 4.

JourneyCheck playing up all morning as well and the new screens were not showing correct information but the old ones were.

Also 06:47 Clacton to LST hit a cow near Wivenhoe so disruption on the branch including cancellations this morning.

Just the usual Yarmouth cancellations on the locals this morning but a full service has resumed on the Felixstowe branch. Looks like the 1030up/1300dn Intercity services have been caped. Train fault the reason given.

Ipswich to Lowestoft seems to be exclusively 153 operated today.
Yet yesterday I had a 2-car 170 vice the booked Scud on the 1407/1554.

NC37 has just passed through Brundall on the 1036 Yarmouth so maybe it's covering something else or heading to Crown Point for fuel resulting in the cancellation of the 1236.

Are the broken units likely to be quick fixes or longer ones?

Need to use the Norwich - Cambridge service and back again this weekend, not liking my chances :(

Unfortunately the Cambridge route has suffered cancellations as well as 156 & even 153 substitutions over the last week. Seems to be slightly improved now but expect short forms.

All the Norwich in 90 services were cancelled yesterday.

As for the Class 317s some of them are basically only fit for scrap.

So this morning there has been a broken down freight train, fair enough, it causes disruption to services for the morning and cancallations, no problem with that whatsoever and fully understand.

However, can someone outline to me how the later half of the folllowing cancellations can all be attributed to the broken down freight train
10:36 Norwich to Great Yarmouth due 11:12
11:17 Great Yarmouth to Norwich due 11:52
12:01 Ipswich to Peterborough due 13:39
13:50 Peterborough to Ipswich due 15:28
16:00 Ipswich to Peterborough due 17:40
17:50 Peterborough to Ipswich due 19:28

Is it that we just throw a few cancellations in a different bucket to massage our figures? To me that looks like they are a DMU down so they've cancelled the whole diagram for pretty much the whole day.

Exactly what I thought about those Peterborough cancellations going on into the evening.

Looks like the Felixstowe branch has now been suspended for the remainder of the day now.
