Scotrail seem pretty good at weekday advance tickets but I can't find any available on any Sunday service from Aberdeen to Edinburgh between now and 15/9/19.
The Scotrail website still mentions £5 tickets 7 days a week but cheapest Scotrail fare I can find (2 pax, 2 together) is £44.20. A Cross Country leaving at an inconvenient time has cheapest of £33.40 which still seems dear.
Have advanced tickets stopped on a Sunday on this route?

Let's start again. There are two of you travelling with a Two Together railcard? And one way between Aberdeen and Edinburgh? What time is inconvenient?

The £5 advances are now very rare. I have stopped expecting to find them because, at best, I was maybe finding just a couple on the last train of the day. But there are plenty of Aberdeen-Edinburgh advances on the Scotrail website for e.g. Sunday 28th July starting at £18.10 (i.e. around £24 for two adults with TT railcard) on evening departures. Even less on the 2129 XC departure.

So far as I can see, the latest Sunday for which Scotrail have released Aberdeen-Edinburgh Advances is 4th August. There are still £18.10 Advances on afternoon and evening trains that day. The moral is clearly to book as soon as they are released (usually Friday around 10am I think) for the day you want to travel.

The 1110 Cross Country is less convenient (for us) than other trains on the Sunday but seems to be the cheapest option.

Yeah, we're looking for either early morning or early afternoon - I had only really checked times after 9am. I will keep looking, of course.

Bear in mind that on a Sunday, there are no morning Scotrail through services between Aberdeen and Edinburgh. The Scotrail through services go to Glasgow. The through services to Edinburgh are with LNER or XC. That said, as yet there are no Advances on Scotrail services out of Aberdeen, even just as far as Dundee, on Sundays after 4th August. It's probably a case of checking every Friday morning just after 10am to see the latest releases.

The availability of £5 tickets was always pretty restricted. The 0947 LNER service from Aberdeen on Sundays sometimes has good value for money tickets on it though, especially where First Class is only a couple of pounds more. What time train would be your most convenient?

Do Scotrail still do £10 first class advance tickets? I haven't managed to get one for over a year now. Yet it still always looks empty in 1st on Scotrail.

I often end up booking the LNER service. They have much better availability of 1st class advances. It's often good value when it incudes cooked breakfast/dinner, alcohol, and lounge access. Weekend offering isn't as good but can still be worth it if only a few pounds more than standard class.

Hopefully with more HSTs coming into service Scotrail will release more £5/£10(1st) advance tickets in the future.

When the HST's do come in to service even if the first class fares are not that cheap they should be much better value as the seats are the best first class ones in the country in my opinion, especially as the LNER class 800 ones will be no where near as nice.

Actually, 0947 would be ideal - I'll keep checking frequently.

LNER tickets for Sunday 22nd September are likely to go on sale at 10am on Friday 5th July - but check their website this Friday just in case.

Presumably due to the engineering work at Morpeth these tickets are still not on sale - does anyone have any idea when they might become available?
22/9/19 from Aberdeen to Edinburgh.
