Hi,

Couldn't find a dedicated thread for GoAhead ops so started a separate thread for this one.

Andrew Wickham (MD of Go South Coast) posted on Twitter on 09th June that the Salisbury Park & Ride routes for Britford and Petersfinger are to get electric ADL Enviro200 MMC buses from this winter. They have had an electric bus on test in Salisbury recently.

I have never been on a fully electric bus so I will look forward to a ride on one.

HTIOI,
Dave

It's a hugely nicer experience than a diesel bus - no rattles and the likes.

Indeed, the shuttle between Durham Railway Station and the Cathedral unless it’s changed used to be a electric bus.

Very quiet compared to regular buses!

GoAhead are putting electric buses on a lot of routes - the 500 Park and Ride in Oxford has them now, and they're also being put on the 53/54 in Tyneside.

Since they now own the Hull based EYMS, I wonder if they'll invest in new electric buses there too?

At the moment, only if financial help is forthcoming from elsewhere. The cost is still relatively expensive in comparison with Euro6 diesels.

I hope they have decent size batteries as they'll spend most of their time sat in queues on Southampton Road!

Electric vehicles use hardly any charge when stationary. Indeed, electric vehicles are most at home on stop-start routes with heavy traffic. It is no coincidence that London routes 507 and 521 were among the first routes in the country to go fully electric.

Been on my first fully electric bus in York recently on a Versa on the Poppleton Bar P&R, looked like a good set up with one vehicle on charge at the P&R site whilst the others go round, then the charged one goes and another comes in for a charge.

Acceleration was very good, certainly shifted down the road with a full load of all seats taken and a couple of standees

What are generally the top speeds of electric buses? (like these ones)

Electric buses mostly operate in urban areas so you don't usually get above 30 mph and in London, and probably some other places, they are limited at 30 mph anyway. I recall getting up to 40 mph on Milton Keynes dual carriageways. The VDL artics in the Netherlands get up to 80 km/h, the usual speed limit for buses. The Netherlands has a category of bus called "T100", which are allowed to go at 100 km/h, but as far as I know there are no T100 electric buses as yet. The famous 300 bus from Amsterdam to Haarlem is due to be converted in the next year or so and is currently run by T100 buses so maybe that will be able to go at 100 km/h.

Out in service from Monday 3 February.

They'll do PR9 from Britford and PR15 from Petersfinger P&R sites (the two on the south side of the city), but one journey each hour on both routes will be run by conventional buses as the cycle has a PVR of 4.
