Is this coach numbering system something exclusive to class 385s at present or do any other TOCs use this system as well? There are still some classes where you are just asked to move into the front X carriages for next stop, with no letters or numbers available (Not ScotRail). Presumably the PIS isn't able to display seperate coach letters or numbers for different sets on some older EMU stock.
Southern Electrostars have used “coach X of Y” for years. It was introduced much later on SWT Desiros, once they had auto SDO retro fitted, but they also tell you which coach you are in using “this is coach X of Y”...

London Overground uses it too for short platforms, and I believe Southeastern does too if my memory is right.

Is there any work planned to allow 6 car 385s (and 380s) to turn at Neilston?

Yes, they either have or are in the process of, extending the turnback. Either the actual turnback or moving the signals, I can't remember what it was they had to do to get them to fit.

I personally don't find the announcements annoying in the slightest. I find the voice rather soothing compared to some of the London Centric stock for example. At least there's a regional accent as opposed to someone who sounds like the Orange-Answerphone lady from 1998.

In this health and safety based society we live in now we're bound to hear constant announcements such as mind the gap when you step off the train and please check your have all your belongings with you before you leave the train. The latter presumably helpful in preventing some incidences of lost property.

Really? I can't tell what part of Scotland that accent is from. Pretty generic sounding.

For some reason tonight's delivery is pathed at 45mph. Any possible reason?

Departed early. I'm sure that the jungle drums will tell us which unit(s) are en route.

I really wish they'd go back to the old style door control buttons with force feedback. Also has the on train clean up teams stopped?

Agreed - I don't like the new door buttons either - there always seems to be a long delay between pressing and opening and it doesn't feel at all intuitive. Thought I'd have gotten used to it by now but still hate them!

Saw a clean up team on the train around 1pm on Saturday though. For the most part I think the 385s are being kept very clean.

Yeah I've heard a few comments regarding the new buttons. The doors only have on set to compared to two sets on 170. I noticed a delay too causing me to think if I hit the button properly or is the door just slow.

I must admit the 385s are growing on me. Still can't forgive ScotRail for the woeful seats but they are excellent performers at pulling off.

Agreed. I think they are good trains. Door buttons and inadequate bins are small criticisms. Seats are good. Less cushion means more legroom and firm seats are better for you. Fit these seats to a 158 it may make them tolerable trains to sit in.

Still a few tech glitches with them but I assume they will be ironed out.

How they look and perform and how reliable they are over the longer term will be true test of quality built in .

Every 385 I have been in, there has always been a Hitachi fitter also on board. Is this just part of all new train roll out plans? The 385s have been in service for a while now, so seems surprising to me they are still being closely monitored

Yes and No different to Siemens and Bombardier with their new stock.

.

I wouldn't go that far! The seats are utter sh*** IMO as are the sun shades. FC should have had curtains and subdued lighting. The interiors in general are very clinical and harsh.

Do like the fact they are 7 cars on the E to G and they show there speed on this route compared to other routes . Ive not been on N Berwick route on a 385 though.

They could do with the pleasant 380 PA chime I think. Do Siemens own that particular one?

I’m really liking the 385s on the Lanark line especially on the fast sections around bellshill and uddingston because of how quiet it is.

However I don’t like how far a 3 car stops up the platform at some stations it makes it quite awkward for most passengers from what i’ve seen

Used a 385 from Motherwell to Glasgow few days ago , didn't notice it being faster than existing services . Only on the E and G they seeem to stretch their legs.
