Fair point, but I enjoyed my ride on 150-002 from Southampton Central to Cardiff Central about a year ago, even though I was sitting on a sideways facing seat and there was nowhere to put my travel bag! What was unfortunate to me was the fact that I had only got on it as "a 150", not realising its significance until it was too late (of course, I was gutted that I was in a driving car, not one of only two Class 150 centre cars). Those successful Class 150 Sprinter prototypes were built in 1984, the same year as the Class 141 Pacers!

Is the 1100 Swansea-Fishguard booked for a pacer? I had thought it was a 158, often substituted with a 150 when not available. Hopefully we wont have to put up with pacers for much longer!

I think it is a 150 now, definitely not a 158

Dare I ask where the 158 that was on that diagram overnighting in Carmarthen has been reassigned to?

It's all over the place at the moment due to the current shortage and temporary working. It may not even be there overnight now as it covers for a 175 to enable a 3 Car to cover Ebbw Vale peaks.

It's previous working ex Pembroke Dock now works 0910 Swansea to Newport vice a 153 which has been withdrawn as a strengthener on 2B55 0712 Cardiff to Swansea. The 0912 Cardiff to Swansea now has 2 x units (150), one for 1110 Cardiff to Swansea as before and an additional one to work to Fishguard Hbr. I may not be 100% correct but seems to be for the forthcoming future due to a long term shortage not helped by 150 and 158 PRM Mods and 175s refurbishment program

2B57 is booked two Pacers, not two 150s.

That’s exactly how I had interpreted your comment in the first instance too. And I doubt many people would disagree with the sentiment of that opinion. They were never designed for that sort of journey, and thirty years later still aren’t suitable.

And in just over six months they'll be gone. Then we can start moaning about the 150s instead!

That still very much hinges on whether the 769s get into passenger service in the early autumn.
If they don't, TfW will be in trouble.

I took three attempts to read that. I now have images of 2857 (heavy freight 2-8-0 steam loco based at the Severn Valley) running back and forth with a few coaches.

She definitely has been on the mainline:

(photo shows 2857 crossing the river Usk in Newport in 1985)

So who is up for organising 2857 on 2B57. It will need to be top and tail with a diesel as no run round facilities any more.

Wherever the stock to form 2B57 comes from , and bearing in mind is a relatively long journey - especially for the "boat" train element where more comfortable seating and luggage space for the modest number of passengers is needed , could not it be allocated a pair of 150's , leaving the Pacers on the shorter hauls around Cardiff.?

Great shot the 2-8-0 by the way .....

TFW must really be feeling the pinch at the moment, as the 08:09 Birmingham - Aberystwyth/Pwllheli was formed of a single 150 as far as Shrewsbury this morning (Rather than the usual pair of 158s).

150+158 formations out of Birmingham have been fairly common in recent months, but a single 150 really is stretching things a bit.

The 0809 is now a single unit, but a 158 of course, as far as Shrewsbury, The unit off the 0630 ex Aberystwyth attaches to it at Shrewsbury and becomes the Pwllheli portion. This was to "squeeze" the diagrams due to current shortage especially in view of PRM Mods

thanks for explaining, that makes sense now. I guess there will be a lot of changes in the coming months in terms of diagrams due to shortage of units, units going for PRM mods/refurbishment and new units hopefully arriving. I wonder what will be booked for the Royal Welsh Special next month, it could be whatever is available on the day, last year we saw a 3 car 175 on one of the days and 150/153 (I think) on the other days.

Oh, fair enough. Couldn't recall encountering it as a single unit before, though I don't see it every day.

175103 was involved in a collision with a cow today between Pontypool and Abergavenny, so that's another unit down in the short term.

I'm sorry to hear what likely happened to the cow, the 175, and the driver, passengers and crew on the 175. 103 was the one I filmed the ex-GWR 153s delivery from as well - I've never been in a train crash but they must be nasty...
