Thanks for all the advice everyone it's been very helpful and much appreciated. I'm almost certain I'm going to persue this RO position now as my priorities are getting out of security and getting a foot in the door with SWR. I'm just going to phone tomorrow to check if doing the RO assessment will have any impact on my progress in the commercial guard application pool.

One last question: Has anyone done the RO assessment and can they let me know what to expect? I'm assuming it's the usual observation, numeracy, literacy and listening tests?

Can I jump into this conversation. I had an interview for a commercial guard at Salisbury at the end of April and received a call a few days later to
say congratulations I had passed the interview. However as yet I have not received a job start date. I have since phoned and was told they are waiting for training start dates but really cannot say when this might be and that I am on the list, though they cannot say where on the list I am - is this normal?

From what I can gather it can be quite a long wait as I think they have certain slots through the year where they run the training and it will depend on numbers and the timing of the job offer I guess.

I'm currently waiting for my commercial guard interview so can I please ask you for some details on the interview - what did it consist of and what questions did they ask? I want to be as prepared as I can be.

I also passed my rail operator assessments last week so thank you once more for everybody's help and advice on here. I'm now in the recruitment pool awaiting interview for both rail operator and commercial guard.

Chris did you have your assessment day for RO

Yes. Passed all the assessments, it was much shorter than the commercial guard assessments but still tricky at times and a fair few people didn't pass. It was pen and paper based with one audio test.

Despite passing assessments for both commercial guard and rail operator I have recently received correspondence that I will not be interviewed for either position at this time as all current vacancies have either been filled or no longer exist. This news was very disappointing but I guess I'm on file to go straight to the interview stage for any future vacancies.

I am also the same. I'm hoping it's not long until there are new training courses. I have a feeling it wont be until the start of next year though.

Hi mate I’m sort of in the same boat I’ve been trying for a while to get my foot in the door at swr I’m currently working on Board as Buffett steward between bmouth and Waterloo job is ok but the company are appalling to work for but at least I get free travel also I’ve just passed my assessment for RO2 operator based in Brockenhurst and have an interview this Thursday 19/9/19 my only concern is it’s only part time 20 hours per week 3pm to 7pm mon-fri and I really need 37-40 hrs per week what with bills, mortgage etc so I’m def still going for it but if anyone has any helpful advice I’d be appreciated.
Thanks.
