Hi,

I wasn’t sure where to post this one, but it’s timetable related, I guess, so I’m posting here.

Earlier this evening NRE were reporting disruption on the ECML in the Alexandra Palace area due to a broken down train.

The service involved was 1S30 the 1830 London Kings Cross [KGX] to Edinburgh [EDB] LNER service.

I looked it up on RTT and at the time it was showing as having departed from KGX on time and showed on time until the point it broke down.

On refreshing the page later it now shows as departing KGX at 2050 140L!

What happened? Did it go back to KGX and start again?

According to RTT it’s currently in the Darlington area 156L.

Saperstein.

Got dragged back to KGX and restarted with another set I believe

Thanks, gonna, be a late night for a fair few then!

Did they have to change the crew due the delay? (mandatory brakes and all that).

Not sure where they routinely change on that route? York?

Sounded like some sort of electrical problem, there was talk of resetting batteries.

Crew change is Newcastle (though I've seen them do a second at York during the Durham Coast diverts), as the London crew only go as far north as Newcasle and the Scottish crews only go as far south as Newcastle.

Thanks, not sure if it was a crew issue or just the sheer lateness of the train, but it seems to have been caped at Newcastle at 0023, by then 165L!

And caused an early retirement present to Kings Box of 732 delay minutes! :!:
Last thing that I heard was that it was a “power issue”, and the Thunderbird came out, dragged it back to KGX and then went back to Bowes Park ECS for “repairs”.

Is it me or is there a slow increase in breakdowns from the IC225's? Assuming yes, I'm not that surprised given that a 91 has to do all the work hauling mostly 9 Mark 4 coaches practically every day.

I was booked on this service from York yesterday. Thankfully the advice for those waiting north of London for it was to board the next LNER service, which called additionally at most of the calling points that the failed train was booked to call at. Only those on it from London got to their destinations severely late.

Does anyone know which Thunderbird is based at KGX at present and hauled this set back from Alexandra Palace?

Thanks.

And the Class 82 DVT.

Change the second one to "and the unpowered DVT" and it would be quite accurate, given that the DVT is in the same weight range as a carriage.
