In the UK most TOCs do the bare minimum on weekends when it comes to catering. For example no Pullman Dining on GWR, most long distance TOCs do very basic complimentary 1st class offers, where provided it can finish earlier or start later.

But over in Germany what's the story on DB services, in particular ICE services? Is it the full offer as on a weekday (i.e. Bordrestaurant with at seat service in 1st class) or is it reduced to something else? Is there a difference between Saturday and Sunday?

Thanks :)

In my experience it's exactly the same at the weekend as it is during the week - unless someone else knows different!

Every day is open day, to coin a phrase (not!). All IC trains have some catering 7 days a week; all Bord bistros and Bord restaurants on ICEs and ICs also operate 7 days a week. That includes Christmas Day as well. The only thing that's changed in recent years is that the food choice options have become slightly more limited, but they are almost still good eg. Maultaschen (when offered). And they now have Vegetarian/Vegan options (also 7 days a week!)

They do seem to have reduced staffing at the weekends though. Often it will be one person covering both the seated restaurant and the buffet counter with consequently slower service at times.

Still a world away from the UK offering though.

I think that you mean the GB offering.
The Enterprise between Belfast and Dublin has full catering at weekends.

restricted but still available/the host of business pax who need to be shown that they are as good as BIZ in a plane will not travel then.
In DE at the mo its also a littlebit of a gamble/as staff is dearly missing often and then there simply wont be any service at all.
